Thanks for the reminder, I sure hope Dale Jr. fans have something to watch this year.

Look, they're making a left turn! Hey look, they're making another left turn! Look, another left turn!!

Like watching NASCAR, although not as much as before(Don't watch much of anything for three hours any more). Not sure about these new cars; they're moving towards a one class one design.

Why couldn't they have kept it more open; big wings, droopy blue oval noses, 7 litre motors... and real cars modiified to race, not full custom everything...

I think Nascar made a brilliant move with the COT. I wasn't so sure at first but they proved it'll work. I saw a few cars so out of shape last night I know they would've been in the fence with the old cars. That rear wing and the other aero tweaks really helped keep the rubber side down. Heck, even Tony Stewart was happy!!
RobertN, Maybe you'll find the road courses more entertaining, they throw in a right turn now and then.
One of the big reasons for the COT was to have one template and help establish more parity on the track as well as to eliminate alot of deviation from the various mfg's established template. (no cheating fellas)

That does sound intriguing, but I'm sure the result will be the team with the most money wins. I believe that was the principal reason for the COT.

Can't use real cars prepared to race. Almost no one builds cars with real frames anymore, unibodys just won't hold up to the kind of stress these cars go through.

I for one would really like to see one or two races a year running PURE STOCK right out of the factory cars could be non point races but to me would be more fun than everyone running the identical car.

What in the world is a 7 litre motor? I checked and you live in California. I think here in America we still use cubic inches. Litre, meter, kilometer.....time that the rest of the world use our standard of measure. :D

I hope Theresa Earnhardt had a good seat to watch her former driver demonstrate what he can do with adaquate equipment!

Now only if they hadn't RUINED Bristol.

I have to admit....... the past year or two, i just haven't been paying as much attention to NASCAR. Just seems like there are so many new, young guys, i just can't seem to keep up with whos who....... maybe its early Alzheimers? Also...... safer is always good, but with the C O T..... stock car racing has just plain lost its identity. When there is no visible difference between a Toyota (Toyota in NASCAR?????? ) and a Chevy(or whatever brand you might root for)....... I'm thinking this is really where they are losing me.

I used to be a big fan of NASCAR but it has now become to much like WWE wrestling and a soap opera. It's all about money and nothing to do with fans or drivers. The biggest reason for COT is so the teams wouldn't have so many different types of cars (short track, super speedway, road course, 1 mile track) and oh yeah its safer.
Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch run into each other and go to the trailer and NASCAR probably said great job fellas, did you hear the fans, they loved the show. The good ole days of Earnhardt, Sr., Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, Cale Yarborough, Neil Bonnet, etc. are gone. Those were the real racers. This new stuff, they put somebody in there with good equipment and they do pretty well. Look at Denny Hamlin, few people had heard of him, put him in a Joe Gibbs car and see what he did with a little help from NASCAR.

I'm getting off the soap box now. I'll still watch the races some, but the never miss a race mentality is gone, because there are just too many coincidences.

The late 60's/early 70's were pretty even. Although the big Mopars with the wings and nose cones had more reputation than the droop nosed Fords, they actually diced it up pretty good. GM was pretty much a no-show back then; they did not really have factory backing.

Even then, they were restricted; the Hemi's had major rule restrictions, because even as nice of a motor as the 427 Ford was, it could not keep up with the Hemi'sif the two motors were built the same.

The COT reminds me too much of IROC; a true one design one class car. Although they use manufactures motor(loosely at best), the body and everything else is becoming more stickers and emblems on a basic body than an individual manufacturer.

In the day, sure Ford or Mopar might have dominated one year vs the other. bhut the manufacturer came out with the goodies the next year. And, there were restriction to level the fiels a bit(ie restricted Hemi's). But, they did some awesome racing, and one never dominated for long....

I do remember GM crying when the '83 Thunderbirds came out and walked away from them. Million Dollar Bill Elliot; good driver and good car! GM dominated the field for 10 year, and cried cried cried when Ford finally came back and played in thier sandbox:eek:

A one design one class system will showcase driver skill, that's for sure.

Well, at least there is still a lot of variety at the local tracks. We're fortunate to have a nice dirt track, a nice asphalt track, and another dirt track within a half hour of here :D

Oh, and if you want more fun, find some place that runs these; awesome to watch :D Fast Fridays 0-60 in 2 seconds, no brakes... sliding sideways :D

Well, I'm referring back to the Superbirds, Daytona's, and Talledegas. They actually diced it up pretty good back then, when Ford and Chrysler were sinking a lot of money in to the cars and development. The winged Daytona's and Superbirds(my personal favorite ever) are more famous, but they actually split things up pretty even with the Fords.

They have four manufacturers in there right now(Ford, Dodge, various GM, and Toyota). Let them dice it up! They run two classes as it is, Sprint Cup and Busch.

If they want the COT so bad, the make it a 3rd class. Open it up to the manucaturers to bid, and make it a real one design class like the IROC was. There's nothing wrong with a class like that. Just don't make it the main class(secondary class like the Busch series).

Have been to Sears Point(Infineon). Really really cool to watch. I was there for the Saturday Busch series, and the Nextel(now Sprint) cup guys came out for happy hour. Dale Jr spun out right in front of us :D

I've never been to a road course, been wanting to go up to the Glen. I always get a kick out of qualifying for the road courses trying to figure out who all the new guys are. There's always 6-8 "specialists" that try to make the field.
