Dont know how big your ponds are but what about welding up a grapple/dredge drop it on the far side of your pond, run a line across the pond and drag the grapple through with the tractor?

I've thought about that also :)

Pond I'm working on is 4 acres- long line to run and not really necessary. I'm just cleaning up a shore line thats been over grown and silting in for 50 years. All trees so tough to get bigger equip. in. I have an 9' extentsion pretty much figured out; just playing with best way to attach and remove easily.

I was just gonna keep it simple I think and bolt a couple of pipes to the sides of the bh bucket, bend them together a bit weld another pipe between them but longer with a bend and a shackle at the far end, just 4 bolts off n on.

Here is a pict of what I have to move and how I do it with the front end loader. With lines and bouys they are about 100lbs apiece. Even with the *** end uphill as I pick them off the boat the tractor feel stable and if I picked up a stack with the backhoe first and the pipes coming off the bucket made a yoke to rest the pots against(to stop swaying) I think it would be pretty stable. But like I said I am new to this tractor stuff.

seems like it'd be alot easier to just remove the backhoe and put a boom on the 3pt. what do they cost $100 or so?

I thought about building one but thought the bh would give me more control, as well as more weight on the back end. I don't do all the pots at once and use the tractor for other things inbetween, most of my work is fel and while the backhoe comes off n on really quick, adding the 3pt links takes a couple of minutes. Will have to google them, as I havent seen any prebuilt ones very long, where are you seeing them for $100
Thanks

Why not mount a boom pole on the FEL. That would be easy. I don't think your backhoe will pick 500# extened out the way it is. An extension would over stress everything and could brake your tractor in half. Why does your tractor have different size dual front tires.

I already pick up one stack with my fel, wanted to pick one up with the rear so I could halve the trips 400 pots 2x a year.
The dealer said I couldn't put duals on front, would screw things up cause of the camber but I needed the extra flotation. This way I just run on the main tire until I sink into the sand then the other comes into play. It also gives me more clearance for the fel bracket.
Do you really think it would break the tractor in half picking up 500 lbs with the backhoe even with a 5 ' extension? It is a sub frame not 3pt backhoe.

Have you tried picking up 500# with the hoe streched out all the way. A bucket of dirt doesn't weigh 100#. The farther out you move the load the more leverage it has. If you put 500# way out front and 500# way behind the leverage is tremendous putting all the stress on the center. It will try to bend it in the middle.

I picked up a 900lb outboard and hung it on the transom with the backhoe no problem although I just picked it up off a truck and swung it onto the transom, didn't have to drive anywhere with it.
