When I purchased the Boomer 3040 I told the dealer I needed tire chains for a sloped driveway that ices up a lot. He told me a lot of guys are just putting chains on the fronts with good success. That was fine by me since they are much easier to install. They gave me 4 link ladder chains for the fronts. At the time I was not educated on the different styles/types of chains and thought chains were chains and felt comfortable with the dealers advice. :ashamed:

I wish I had 2 links on the front for more grip and less bounce.

Yesterday as we worked the tractor on the driveway the snow packed hard and some ice has setup beneath. I thinking I need them on the back too. Would it be OK to install 2 link ladder chains on the rear or should I just get 4 link ladders to match the fronts ?

Below is a picture of my wife practicing her snow removal skills on a piece of flat road.

You can use either 2- or 4-link ladder chains on the rears against the 4-link chains you have on front. There is a healthy price difference between the two styles.

Do you have a weight box for the back or loaded tires. Weight is a tremendous help.

Weight definitely is a big plus. Could you buy more cross links and add them to the chains you already have.

Rear tires are filled with windshield washer fluid. The weight added is about 400 lbs per tire or 800 lbs total. Tires are 17.5-24 added about 50 gallons per tire at 8 lbs per gallon. I understand w/w fluid is the same weight as water and is good to -20F for freezing. Unfortunately the weight doesn't help rubber sliding downhill on ice :(.

Hey never thought about that, good idea . Where do you buy cross links and what tools do you need. Or better yet does someone have links ?

Thanks, it really wasn't too cold just snowing at about 32 degrees and very little wind. She loves to drive our new toy no problem getting her to drive it. :)

Hey nice tractor.

I have the same chains on the front and I put duo-grip on the back. They fall between the lugs and I need to modify them. I plan on putting links between the cross links to keep them in place.

Thanks I really like the tractor too.

What blower do you have on the front is it the NH that is blue? That's nice  !

I would like to add a front mount blower next year, whats involved and cost for you was ?

I can't think of the exact model number but it is the 72" NH blower. The cost.......are you sitting down.........around $7500. That is for the blower and the quick attach bracket. I also got a blade for the front at about $3500. You will also have to have at least one remote if you want the shute rotation and angle to be hydraulic.

I've read front mount blowers are expensive so I didn't fall off my chair.

So $7,500 for a front blower, $23,000 for a tractor. I would go as far to guess that profit margins are higher on implements :D

Till I get everything I want it's like I bought a new BMW M series. :confused2:
