Boomer 8N ROPS

It will be a museum piece. But only because the failed ECU, crumbling wiring harness and broken drive chain will render it useless for anything else.
Wow, that's a lot of negativity! Did you have a bad experience with a Boomer 8N or just like peeing on others parade? Like I said in an earlier post, I haven't used it much yet but so far am thoroughly impressed with the ease of operation. What will it be like in 30 yrs, nobody knows!

Rick,

I take it you are seeing a lot of these problems. Has there been a recall?

Man, I don't care what problems it might have in 30 years, if I could afford one, I'd have one. I think the 8N is one of the prettiest tractors I have seen. For some reason, it just sings to me.

If one of you guys would just come up with a $20k cash gift to me, I could get one.

I have been around them enough to form that opinion. The complexity, trim level and cost of the Boomer 8N goes well beyond what is needed or even useful in a tractor of that size, IMHO. Sales numbers would indicate that the majority of the market agrees with me.

Pretty much all modern tractors are electronic and computer controlled now, yes they are complex and scary to some. It really doesn't worry me too much. CVT's are proven in the ag market and are the future, just like power shift was 20yrs ago. You think these little things are pricey and complex, check out a new combine or large tillage tractor! Prices of new farming equipment is crazy now, easy to get over $300k in a new combine, so I'm not surprised at the cost of the 8N Boomer. Modern farm equipment went electronic/computer controlled many years ago, it's actually just moving down into the smaller stuff.

You need to check Rick's credentials -- he is a NH service technician. I expect that he knows what he is talking about.

I'm not saying he doesn't know what he is talking about, if that is the way my post read I am sorry, what I am trying to say is none of what is on the Boomer 8N is new technology. I've owned and operated "computer controlled" tractors and combines ranging from 115 to over 300 hp, dating back to the first Genesis series NH tractors. I remember people saying they were to complicated and would never last, turned out to be a pretty good tractor. I can tell you that engine and transmission failures are pretty rare on new equipment. Most of the problems are electrical, senders and switches, but a quick plug into the diagnostic computer usually points the service tech in the right direction quickly. I'm also not saying that the new 8N will last forever and be considered a legend like it's namesake, I actually doubt that very much, but only time will tell. Right now I just want to enjoy my new toy, it will have a pretty easy life while I own it, just used for pushing snow and some light loader work around the yard in the summer.

It is not a matter of new or old technology. It IS a matter of how that technology is applied through the machine design and construction. I routinely steer customers and those that seek my advise towards cutting edge technology that is proving to be viable and cost effective. The price point for this novelty item and your stated uses for it work to prove my point. I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a 50 gross engine HP open station CUT that costs a similar amount.

If you want a cool looking tractor and have the coin to drop on it, fine. I do hope you enjoy it.

I got mine this past June and used it all summer to bore holes for fence posts, cut, tedd, rake, bale (round and square) and last but not least 'trench'.

Runs great, no problems.

200 hrs so far.

Make sure the 'brake' is pulled up tight when you get off, especially if it's running.
