Recently, I wrote of a problem with my L2800... first thing to go was my power steering and it wasn't long before a second problem came up. The tractor acted like it had slipped out of gear... no forward, no reverse... If I kill the engine and restart it, everything was fine for a little while...
I contacted the service manager at my dealer... Lansford Equip., Marble Falls, Texas... Wonderful dealer BTW... He suspected a suction hose coming off the hydraulic pump might have developed a leak. He even sent me a photo of the offending part and where it was located.
Yesterday, I pulled it off and sure enough, the hose had cracks in it! Unable to locate one locally, I wrapped a couple of rounds of Gorilla tape on the hose to hold until I can get a new hose. The tractor ran like it did when new. Wonderful power steering and the hydraulics felt stronger than ever... Soooo, if anyone develops this same problem, check your hose...

Glad you found your problem. Sounds like Gorilla Tape is a must have in the old tool box.

I had the same issue on my 3940 also.

Glad to hear your problem is solved.

What is the average life span of the suction hose? I have seen a lot of members with L2800/3400's with this problem. I keep waiting for something to pop up on mine.

Just curious if this unit was kept in the weather or stored in a Barn ,shed or wHAT? How old is it

As for mine, In a barn and happen last year 2009 (bought in 2005) with about 200 hours. Wondering if the replacement will be about the same or if they improved / redesigned it???

I was at a friend's house on Sunday his L3400 was purchased in 2007. Kept in a shed (no heat). His hose is leaking (we just noticed it) at ~200 hrs.

So when I got home, I thought I would check on mine for kicks. I bought mine in March of 2006. Always kept in the garage (heated in winter and much cooler than the outside temp in the summer). I have the beginning of a crack at ~150 hrs.

I don't want to replace it with another one from Kubota if this is just going to happen again. Has anyone found an alternative?

My L2800 is less than three years old and has less than 300-hours on it... most of the time it's kept in a carport. The hose has a sharp bend in it and that's where mine had cracked and was sucking air. There may well be a better fix than my Gorilla tape and one that certainly would last longer. I did replace mine with a new one from Kubota but kept the old/cracked one... Might try some type of epoxy or JB Weld. The most important thing is to be aware of the problem in case it happens to you. Mine is under warranty, but who wants to trailer the tractor 40-50-miles for a simple repair?

That's exactly where ours are leaking/about to leak. I was thinking about an alternative part from an auto parts store. Something a little more flexible. I did notice that there are two different replacement parts on one of the parts websites.
