Nice machine! The Massey dealer closest to me (120 miles) was too lazy to give me a quote on a 1740 cab so I bought a Kubota 4060 cab across town from him. I really liked the Massey. Him not so much...
Hey, nice tractor. Just wondering, any reason you picked the 1735m over the 1740?
I was looking at the 1740 as one of my options...comparing it to the Kubota L4060. And it moved up the ranks simply because the dealers up here have no L4060 open stations available.
The MF dealer has a 1735 on the lot, so I thought I'd take a look at that one for fit. BUt also figure since it's on the lot I might be able to get it for a better price.
The difference between the 1735 and the 1740 is about $4000 (about 3000 USD) . Financed...it's not much, but still I'm wondering if I would notice the loss in gross and PTO horsepower. the 135 is only 300lbs lighter, uses the same loader and is the same width.
I'd be using for brush hogging, landscaping, firewooding with grapple.
I'll watch your vid now.

My recommendation here is simply for you to ask yourself if an extra 2.7 hp at the pto worth the $4k. When it comes to loader work and anything that doesn't use the pto the hp difference is barely noticeable. The extra pto hp generally equates to doing the same amount of work just a little faster. If you plan to brush hog a lot and it's going to involve small trees then I'd recommend it. If you're doing mostly grass and field brush then you'd probably barely tell the difference. If doing any if your work commercially then I'd bump up otherwise it's probably not worth it. Basically you have to decide for yourself what $4k us worth. You could get 2 extra implements with that money or extra hydraulic remotes.
In any case, I hope it helps you decide. On a side note I'd imagine a Kubota L4060 costs more than the 1740M. The Kubota L3560 was the most expensive 35hp tractor I was quoted on. Thanks for watching the video.
Just finished watching it. That was after 2hrs. How many do you have now and you still love it?
My brush hogging will be a bit in the field, but in the woods too. Chopping up brambles and thicker undergrowth. And I'll be using the tractor to make trails. And chipping wood eventually.
Pricing on the L4060 is pretty close. I'm not getting a deal like you did with the brush hog and box blade. It's more expensive up here. The problem with the Kubota is that there are less than ten ROPS versions in the whole country...and where my dealer is, he would need to order from the factory I guess. Which would take months.
It sounds like you might need the extra hp. Better to have more than not enough. That's unfortunate that you can't try the L4060. Hope things work out.
Thanks.
If you have the time, a follow up vid would be good to see. Like you said, most of the stuff on youtube is dealer vids, and you're not getting a balanced view from that.
Great video, thx. I've been researching heavily. I have been convinced I was leaning towards a Kioti CK3510se or CK4010se. After your review, I'll be looking into Massey. It looks like Massey has a bit more loss of hp to the pto, which is a concern for me. Curious how the Massey emissions system stacks against the DPF systems.
This Massey 17M series doesn't have a regen cycle to worry about. Much of the regen problems around here happen in the cold weather because the operator doesn't get the tractor to a high enough temp when it is time to regen. The 17M series doesn't have that problem.
Understood, but the Massey does have the EGR/DOC system which I wonder doesn't present it's own potential issues. I thought I recalled reading somewhere that this engine EGR/DOC system runs hotter in order to circumvent the need for DPF. So it is burning off the particulate rather than capture it.
