dholly,
Thanks for responding. I'm still making headway on the plow installation, but I think I'll make sure I actually finish the subframe fabrication and install the plow before I spend the money to sand blast and paint it. I just came from the machine shop a few minutes ago. I had some holes drilled in a 3/4" plate for the plow subframe. I'd spend around $100.00-$150.00, but it's now worth too much more than that. Maybe I'll run a belt sander and wire wheel over it before bringing it somewhere to lower the price. I'm more concerned getting the rust and old paint out of the cracks and crevices. More to come...

Thanks again,
Howard

Howard we're in the same boat as you. We finished up a 7.5' Meyers plow about a month ago and we now need it sandblasted before painting it New Holland blue I'm going to wait till spring and possibly purchase a pressure washer sandblaster and take care of the problem myself. Right now the plow is on winter weather stand-by.

Never heard of a pressure washer sandblaster.

I'd be curious to see what you made up for a subframe. I had the 'luxury' of an oem option for my setup.

Hi Mike,
I have a preasure washer, but I wonder what a sand blaster set up costs. Anything worth buying will probably be really expensive, but it's worth a look. I wonder if I could rent one somewhere? Food for thought...

Thanks,
Howard

Hi dholly,
It seems when I had the 2004 Kubota BX1500 and then the 2005 Kubota B7610, there were front blades available with subframe kits. I bought and installed one on my B7610 along with a Curtis cab. Once I moved to the bigger 2005 MX5000, there wasn't a front blade available that mounted to a stock subframe. I'm thinking, since I take the tractor in the woods, I could leave the subframe on and use it as a skid plate. Unfortunately, my imagination is getting in the way more or less. I could probably slap it together and have a working plow, but keep integrating more ideas as I go. I should probably take some before and after photos. It would be nice to be able to see the progress as I go.

Thanks,
Howard

I did a quick Google search and found a bunch of information on sand blasters. Looks like I can buy one for short money. I'm a firm believer of you get what you pay for, but if I can get one for cheaper than what it would cost to have someone do it for me. I'm sure what they'd use would be much better, but I could go slower and have a sand blaster when I'm done. Any opinions on this one???

Howard I don't want to hijack this thread but you can see a conversation about pressure washer sandblasters here

I have done some sandblasting.
Best is a model that has the tank pressurized but the BIG downside is that a LOT of CFM's are required!
I hazard to guess that no less than 15CFMs are needed.

I have experimently made 2 such units with some success.
One was basic 'hand held' from gravity feed and later made into a cabinet style.

Recently I obtained a small hand held gravity fed (like a HVLP paint gun) that works very well with even my portable 2.5HP job site compressor. Kinda slow, but OK for nooks and crannies (like on a snow plow). Should be awesome with something like a 8 HP shop compressor.

I also rented a 150HP rig and blasted a 40' x 40' log cabin and did a trailer with leftover sand.

That GD sand gets in everywhere. You need total protection like a pressurised hood and cape affair. Even so you spend the next couple of days cleaning sand out of your ears nose and every other nook and cranny.
Also VERY bad for health. The lungs really hate it.

I'll not do it again. Just not worth the health risk and mess.
I rank sandblasting well up in 'the 10 worst job catagories'

Just my 2 cents.
