I feel your pain.. but breakages and repairs 'happen'.

Everybody has problems with parts.. just a thing...

I agree, stuff happens. everytractor has thousands of parts. If one part out of a thousand fails, 0.1% failure rate for something man made.

Two things strike me in this thread.

1) the Poster came in and bashed the brand as a "New Member", and his first post.. Maybe I spend too much time in some "other" forums, but thios raises an eyebrow with me.

2) I didn't take Bob's comments as bashing in any way. I took it as constructive criticisism across the board. I'll be the first to admit that I don't always agree with Bob, and sometimes want to throw dirt in his mouth, lets not throw if he doesn't deserve it! Bob just calls a spade a spade. The fact everthing breaks down.. JD, NH, Kub, Kioti, Mahindra, Ford, Chevy, Dodge... I am a little shocked though that no attempt was made to make it "right." Wonder where the orginal poster is... I for one would like more info.. are we fighting over a troll? I may get flamed for the last question, but I would hate for there to be much ado about nothing.

Keep it coming Bob.. I'll either stand with ya or against ya! lol

Well said rback33 and I agree with your analysis of this thread.

Out of the years of me being a part of this board/forum, that's the first bearing failure I remember seeing on a Class I NH. So not all of the brand is destined to fail at 141 hours.

First of all... welcome to TBN! :)

Second, sorry to hear of your troubles. Nothing worse than having to spend money on something like that.

A couple of the reasons many of us found TBN were because we were looking to purchase a tractor or had questions about repairing our existing tractor. At a gathering place for people looking to repair tractors, you are going to hear lots of broken tractor stories. In the six or so years I have been hanging around here, NH has been reported as nothing but outstanding in the quality department. Unfortunately, you got one that failed for reasons unknown. Until we get multiple reports of more wheel bearing failures, most of us will probably consider it an unfortunate, isolated incident. Doesn't make you feel any better, but that's probably what it is. Hopefully, you will get many more years of trouble free service from that tractor. So why don't you hang around, read some of the threads here at TBN regarding your tractor model (and others), and get to know some of the folks here? Great bunch of people that can really help ease the pain and share the fun of tractor ownership.

First, let me offer my suggestion on how I'd approach the dealer end of the story. Since your tractor is out of warranty (time-wise) NH is under no obligation to do ANYTHING. However, your hour total isn't even close to what I'd put on a tractor in a typical summer season. I'd suggest to the dealer they TRY to get NH involved. (It would be a good PR move on their part)

Parts break. Parts wear out prematurely. Life goes on. Sometimes the best of products fail on occasion.

I've got one tractor that I bought new in 1978. It had a PTO clutch problem 2 weeks after I bought it. I was afraid I'd bought a lemon. In the 28 years ( and 3900 hours) SINCE, I don't recall anything other than routine maint. parts ever being replaced.

Make a few calls to someone higher up the food chain (NH) if the dealer won't go to bat for you. In MOST cases, companies like NH don't want the ill will that goes with a product failing that soon. Even if they DON'T do anything, you'll at least get the opportunity to vent your frustrations.

Even if they refunded the bearing cost, and let you pay the labor.. it is still better than nothing... a dollar is a dollar.. etc.. and at least that would be them acknowledging there was a part issue.. etc.

Hi All,
Yes I am a Junior Member when it comes to posts. I never had a reason good or bad to post before. I read here and on other tractor web sites all the time. In fact I used sites like this to help me decide what tractor to originally buy. I am disturbed when I read that apparently a persons post count matters more than the subject.
Thank you all who replied although I was not asking for replies. I was pointing out my predicament.

On purpose I left out a lot of details as I felt I got my point across that the dealer/and or New Holland let me down. I do understand my warranty was up and cannot force them to repair something for free when a warranty is past due.

Somethings which had been left out of my original post. Yes I am upset. But considering what really transpired I think I handled the original post pretty tame.

The dealer implied "get the tractor in so they could do what is needed" and mabe help as far as warranty. I had told the dealer the tractor would not hold oil and that the axle/wheel was flopping up or down quite a distance. The dealer sent a truck to pick up the tractor. I told the driver the tractor would not move and showed him the 4 gallons of oil on the ground. The driver was confused and called the shop. They told him to try driving it onto the trailer anyways. As soon as the tractor started it screamed from no oil. But the dealer tried to move it anyways. It never budged an inch. :[
The dealer supposedly did the repairs and told me no warranty but that they would see if NH would cut me any kind of break.

I paid to have the tractor returned to me. When I got it back I noticed that a portion of the bolts were missing from the right side of the tractor! I called the dealer and was told i must be wrong since no extra bolts were left over after the job. They finally sent a mechanic out to the tractor and I must use the term mechanic loosely. He saw the missing bolts and stated ahhhh my daughter had her baby that day so I was distracted and never tightened the bolts??? Tightened? Umm how about never installed them. Then after the mechanic put in the missing bolts he assured me that if any others fell out or were missing it was nothing he did? That made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Yes these events were seperate from the bearing failure although I have to wonder with the mechanic skills shown to me if anyone invovled would actually have been able to tell what had or had not happened concerning the bearing failure.

I never got anything from New Holland which made all of the above just that much more painful.
I hit the dealer about trying to drive my tractor with no oil to load it on the trailer. The response was that I didnt know how a HST tractor really worked and that no damage would have been done unless a person continueoulsly kept trying to move it. Ahhhh warm and fuzzy again.

So after I did not get anywheres with NH or the dealer and had calmed down I felt it was time to post a thread to complain about my bearing failure.

Yes I know my post was an attempt to make me feel better. If that was wrong I understand if the moderators remove my post.

Also thank you for the suggestions a few of you made concerning my woes. I did not realize that other manufacturers were letting owner/operators down in the same way I had been let down.

RCL,

A bit of free advice again, probably worth about as much as you're paying for it too.

This site is a good one. In general, most everyone TRIES to be helpfull in their own way. But it is afterall, the internet. You'll get a certain number of people who automatically assume you're wrong, they're right, and you need to back off and let them tell you how to run your affairs. Since it is the internet, just scroll on by those kind of replies. And in some cases, people ARE being helpfull, just they don't always word things in a way they can be understood, and without sounding condescending.

You have every right to be upset.

And with your last post, I'd say the dealer (and to a certain extent, NH) needs to make things right. That dealer needs to be called on the carpet (again, by NH) over the way they dealt with your problem.

With any group of people, there tends to be a competition for top spot on the totem pole of life. Most internet sites tend to let that become post count. That is more or less a worthless statistic when it comes to legitimate worth of content (in a post or reply). Don't let that intimidate you or discourage you.

Some people just have too much time on their hands. (I said in my 23 post of the morning.....)

I'll stick with my original appraisal of the situation. You have an isolated incident, with a TERRIBLE dealer as middleman. Make a few waves. Heck, splash all the water out of the pool. Just don't write off one of the biggest (and best) companies in the industry as junk.
