What a beautiful morning to be in the tree in north central OK! It's 37 degrees with absolutely no wind whatsoever. Still coming up empty so far this year. My uncle did tag out on the opening day of muzzleloader yesterday, so my hopes are high! I attached a photo of his harvest in case y'all like seeing the pics as much as I do.

I'm sending this picture from the tree stand. Just had this 8 point walk by at less than 20 yards. Looked him over real and decided to let him walk. Now there's a spike moving in on me. At least I'm seeing something! I've been coming up empty all year.

Have only used recurves my entire life. At one time I owned 7 of them. I tried compounds but to me they were like shooting rifles. They are like a heavy contraption to me. Just can't get past the beauty of instinctive shooting with a bow that might weigh 1 and a half pounds in your hand.

I feel the same way. I don't have a bow, but decided it will be recurve, longbow, or reflex deflex thingamajig bow when I get one. No offense meant at all compound shooting boys, but they just look ugly to me. I'm old enough to remember when they first came out. Anyway, I really want to get into now shooting and hunting. That way I can shoot some of these rascals right behind my house! Way too many here in my neighborhood!

I have decided that I'm going to give a shot at making my own recurve bow. I'm not sure where I'll find the time to do it seeing as it is a tedious process and Lord knows my schedule is already pretty full. But I have enough Osage orange trees to probably make a thousand of them so I figure why not give it a whirl. And if I get good enough, who knows, I might be able to make a little extra money on the side. I recently picked up and old draw knife at an auction which seems to be the most important and widely used tool in making your own bow. Plus, could there be a more fulfilling feeling than making your own bow from a tree on your land and then using it to harvest a deer? Maybe if I had kids then that would be it...but for now, I think I'll stick with hunting!

i have a rytera nemesis. haven't picked it up since January but did talk to the GF about going shooting soon. i have a problem getting out early season due to work, and it's hot and buggy
