I've noticed on my King Kutter box blade that the front cutting edge is lower than the rear (by about 3/4") when the top of the end plates etc. is horizontal. This means I really have to crank the top link out to pull the front edge up for smoothing. Is this typical?

Rob, I think all the ones I've seen were even. And the front and rear cutting edges should be identical, as well as reversible. One possibility that I've seen is for the bolts holding the cutting edge on to get loose, then get dirt or gravel jammed in under the cutting edge that holds it in an unnatural position.
