If anyone has ideas on how to make the box blade more functional, could yall post pictures of yall's setups? My box blade is attached to my tractor about 85% of the time, I want to be able to store hand tools, power tools, maybe my small honda generator when not doing box blade work.

I've seen folks add hitch receivers to them; I don't have any photos, but if you did a forum search I bet you'd find a number of threads.

It's one mod I don't have the skill to do myself, and I really wish I did.

I use my Gannon box for ballast as well as dirt work, future plans are to add some racks to allow additional weight, either suitcase or blocks.

I had some oak that I built into a box to sit on top of mine to carry a pole saw, chains, gas, etc. Later I bolted on a hitch because I also need to move my trailer from time to time and didn't want to have to remove the blade just for that.

The two vertical upright pieces of wood are to wrap chain around.

There is also a chain saw holder, but the pic isn't very good of it.

I have a 6' box blade. I used some 2" black iron flat steel to make a grid over the outer parts of the blade so that I could put 4x8x16 solid blocks on each side on top) of it. It can add up to 200 pds of needed. Two hundred pounds is a little heavy so I usually add about 100. The box blade by itself weighs about 400.

I added a receiver hitch to my old box blade, it was very useful while I owned it.

Adding weight to mine can really change how it works. I have a fairly heavy Hawse brand 6' blade. I have also added a D ring near the top so I can use it to drag logs.

Thankyall for the replies. I'm wanting more options for carrying tools, I think I will add a hitch in the future also.

I didn’t bother with a receiver, I just wanted a ball hitch on mine so I simply cut a piece of 4x4x3/8” angle, burned a hole in it for the ball, drilled a couple of half inch holes in the back of my box blade and in the back of the angle and there it was. A ball hitch whenever I had my box blade on my tractor

Generally, I prefer metal for these kinds of modifications, but I needed something quickly and had the sawmill cut oak wood which is about 1" thick. Besides being faster to put together than metal, I also noticed that I needed more space and also needed a better way of dealing with wrapping the chain. It was pretty easy to make additional modifications once I saw what needed improvement.

Don't be afraid to do a working mockup in wood to carry tools if you want to try something before commiting yourself to fabricating it in metal.
