Bob,
It looks like the Bee has the same retaining method as my Howse. Those pins fit in front of the scarifiers. The scarifiers have notches on the rear and then there's room to put the pins in. The pins are held in place on the bottom with a small hitch pin. I found this a pain to remove as it takes a pair of pliers (for me) to pull out the hitch pins. I found the hitch pins (not the retaining pins) get bent and then are a real pain to get out. Some hitch pins have been knocked out of the retaining pin during use too. I also have some damage to the box slot on the top front lip where the retaining pin has been has been smashed into it. I'm in the process of modifying my Howse to use scarifiers with holes in them instead of the notches. They are much cheaper to buy than the Howse scarifiers.

That is an excellent explanation. Thanks.
I'll still post pic soon for clarity purposes, though.

Make sure when looking at the Land Pride box blades, that you know if you are looking at the light or heavy duty models. Because believe me, there is a night and day difference! I have owned 4 different boxblades now, and the one I have finally settled on is the land pride 25 series. (Heavy duty). This blade is unbelievable. Even the light duty blade is a great blade for light-medium type work, but I have a tendency to bend the lighter ones. The heavy blade I believe is nearly indestructable. I have a TC29 and have used it for heavy farm work for over a year now and I am very impressed. Check out the land pride website for a picture of it.
I noticed someone posted a picture of the light duty one, but the heavy duty model should be the one representing Land Pride in this post. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( Can you take a photo of showing the pins? And how do they lock in place? Do they just slip down in there or is there some sort of lock that holds them in place?)

Here are a few pics.
This is from the top

Befco is my favorite brand of mower and cutter. I would be nice if you could post some more detailed photos of the box blades. Especially showing how the scarifier teeth are held in place, etc. Can the scarifiers be adjusted with gloves on? Without the use of tools? Is the rear of the box curved or flat? It looks like the side plates are rectangles, as opposed to trapazoids. I prefer the tapered shape of the trapazoid as I feel it is superior.

Looked at box blades last weekend at several local dealers. There wasn't much to see. Tractor Supply has the KK for around $450. Northern Tool can get a Howse for similar price.

However, the JD dealership had several Frontier blades on the lot. He has a BB 1072 on the lot. Apparently this is 'last years' model but it is new. Its got a little rust on it and he wants $650 which doesn't sound to bad. It is _substantially_ more heavy duty than the KK and the Howse and has captured lower hitch pins. I think this blade is absolutely identical to the Woods GB72 in every way but color. It has the same little handles that hold in two scarifiers each. I prefer pins, but this looks very well built.

He also had a BB2060 which is the newer model. The top edge of the side plates is rolled for strength and it has conventional pins for the scarifiers but it was a 5 footer and cost the same as the older 6 footer.

So I may go and get the BB1072. Maybe he'll come down a little more, but I hear Woods makes good stuff and this unit appears to be very well made.

Saw this little number on ebay.

Not a box blade but looks like it would work well on a driveway.

Kind of a specialized tool and they have it listed with a buy it now price of $895 so not exactly cheap but looks like it might work well for it's intended use. Seems cheaper than the duragrader and might work as well. It lists as only weighing 400lbs so kind of light though.

FWIW, Nathan

Just bought a 4' KK from Tractor Supply. At $398, it was the best I could find. Very well made, at least for what I'm using it for. Heavy sides and scarifiers are held from the top by hitch pins. TSC had the 3pt arms hooked up wrong and took me a while to figure that out, but once I did, assembly was easy. It works great which is the end game for me.. I'll post a picture later, but you can see it on their website.

Bob,
Assoon as I get a chance I'll get more pics of the box as well as all our attachments up here for you. Th 4x4 crossmember is slotted and the shanks slide in them. The shanks have 3 positions and are held in with a bent hitch pin and a pin. They can easily be adjusted with loves on. The rear is curved for reinforcement. The side plates are rectangles for the most part. The front edges have a little shaping to them. Just out of curiosity, can you PM me about your thoughts on the endplates? I'd love to hear your opinion on them.
