I have to say I am right with you, since I sometimes wonder if I have used too-many "I"s in the sentence I have written and so I end up thinking I had better say I am sorry that I have done so, which I suppose helps, although I can't really claim that I know it does for sure, ... Know what I mean?

Maybe if I would stop using "run-on" sentences it would be easier to limit the pronouns!

Actually I'm glad to hear that the tip 'n' tilt is working so well for you. My wish list is growing way faster than my budget, and as much as I want to hydraulicize my top link, it looks like it's going to have to wait for more pressing issues. The rains out here have really started the weeds a-growin', which means I'd better get a sprayer real soon. I think we're finally going to get break in the weather so I can go check out the property this weekend. My fear is that it's time for the sprayer now /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. Hmmmmm. But with all the rain, the ground is probably too soft and squishy to drive my tractor on. Oh, well. I can always try out my rotary cutter in a few weeks. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

With all this talk about box scraper angles and stuff, and knowing that you are now digitally enhanced, is it possible to get pictures that would shed some light on the controversey? Might be kind of a trick to photograph.

But that reminds me -- if you're taking requests (not that you said you were), I would be plumb tickled to see snapshots of your TNT at its various extremes. That is, side views of your box blade tipped all the way forward and all the way backward, and maybe a rear view showing maximum tilt.

Harv, I'll see if I can do that this afternoon or this weekend. Of course, I've gotten the tractor and implements really dirty and just parked it back in the shop day before yesterday. I thought I might be using it again yesterday, but instead had to spend all day working on my (barely) paying job.

Incidentally, while we had that cylinder apart to fix the leak, we shortened it another inch. The original manual cylinder was 17" collapsed and 27" extended (measuring center of pin to center of pin). The hydraulic cylinder was 20" collapsed with an 8" stroke. So now it's 18" collapsed. It'll tilt forward as much as, or probably a little more than, needed. And it'll definitely tilt back more than needed.

And I was hoping another day or two of sun and it'd be dry enough to mow, and the yard needs mowing bad. However, more rain is supposed to get here in a couple of hours./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Sounds like we're running the same weather patterns. In fact, it sounds like you've had the same general conditions as we've had all winter. I never realized that the Dallas area was synchronized with the S.F. Bay Area. Your weather is bigger, of course. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Harv, I needed to take the FEL and box blade off this morning, so I snapped a couple of pictures of that dirty sucker first. With the blade tilted all the way forward, it rests on the sides and even the front blade is 2.25" off the surface.

And I have no idea what I did to screw up that picture, but here's one with the blade tilted all the way back and that leaves the front blade 2" off the surface.

A question for you Bird...

When you've got the box tilted all the way forward does it actually ride on the side plates, or do they dig in and let the cutting edge get a bite?

That's an odd one, all right. Did it look that way on your computer before you uploaded it?

Good shots, though. It never occurred to me that the sides would bottom out if you tilted too far forward. I guess that supports the "small adjustments are best" theory. I think the back-tilt picture demonstrates pretty clearly that an extended top link is what you want for smoothing operations, especially if the front blade is clear off the ground as you say.

And the tooth bar -- man, I didn't really think I was interested in one, but the more you guys talk and show pictures, the more I think it would help me in my up-coming projects. Digging out my "muddy road" stretch when it dries out, for example.

Rob, they dig in and just cut a little narrow trench, unless of course, you're on a really hard surface. And you can tilt it back a bit to lift the sides of the box off the ground and still be cutting with the front blade.
