I used to drive a stretch of interstate heading to/from work. It was in an area where you topped a small hill (this is KANSAS we're talking about here!), approached a major highway interchange, where the speedlimit dropped from 70 to 55. Whenever it was icey, that patch of highway was always the worst.
It got to the point where the local 4x4 club would set up way off in the right of way, maybe 100 feet from the highway, out of harm's way, and sit idling waiting for the next VICTIM to hit that ice, do a series of 360s, go off the road, down the gently sloped road bed, and come to rest in the grassy area.
They'd all fire up, and race to the car to see who go to tow them back onto the road first.
Usually, it was the SUVs and other 4x4s that launched into their play area!
Take care,
Ron
