Hello Folk's, I am looking for some opinions or advice on a problem i am having. I purchased a brand new 6x10 deck over dump trailer made by homesteader trailers. I picked it up last Saturday and before i left the dealers lot he hooked up the battery terminals for me. I brought the trailer home and parked it because i am still waiting on the title in the mail so i have not hauled anything in it. We did cycle the dump box up and down to make sure it worked properly, after that i just unhooked it from the truck and left it alone. Here is the interesting part...I came out the next morning to find the trailer had dumped itself about 6 inches..??? now keep in mind that the remote for the trailer was locked up in the pump box and the little control panel was turned off..... Yes the battery was still connected just as the dealer had hooked it up! So being kinda skeptical, i thought maybe there was some back pressure or something in the cylinder that caused it to lift up....so i opened the box got the remote out and lowered it back down to its down position on the frame i then took the remote inside the house and left it alone and went to work... 12 hours later i came home and again the trailer was dumped about 6 inches..??????? this time i took a closer look and cycled the trailer again all the way up and all the way down making sure to hold the down button for a few seconds after the trailer had came to rest in the down position....I again locked the remote up in the box and went to bed......about 4 hours later i checked it and it was still down..... i got up to come to work and again found it had dumped itself exactly 6 and 1/8 inches off the frame because i measured it.......and This time i left it up just to see how far it will dump itself..... For those of you wondering it is a power up gravity down...dalton hydrolic pump with a marine battery and remote control......Does anybody have any suggestions, opinions, or know whats going on with this thing???????

Is it a wireless remote I'm guess'n ?

If so a door lock - garage door can be the same. Frequency .

On one of my dump trailers I put a battery manual cut off switch so you can turn the power off . We had the wired remote fall and get hung and raised up since the button was pushed the way it fell in the box . Good thing I was close and seen it and keep it from burn'n the pump up .

if you follow the above advice, and disconnect power ...and, it still self-erects 6+ inches, we can start down another path

Thank's guys the interference makes since. but i do not have a garage door door opener and i already tried my wife's door remote kinda thinking the same thing. i gonna try the the disconnect idea. or at least unhooking the battery first.

I don't know how close it is to a Neighbor could also be them if its close to anyone else . Even a gate opener could do it wireless. Could be someone driving down the road also with the right device .

If it does have a wired control I still highly Recommend the disconnect switch .

And there's really no way it could raise with out the pump motor turning .

There are a lot of potential jokes lurking in this little predicament.

If it's a single acting cylinder I wonder if there might be some air at the head of the cylinder and it's getting warm and expanding....just a WAG LOL.....Mike

Viagra in the hydraulic oil.

Same trailer you looked at and bought or different trailer?
Water, moisture and or rust in battery box or in hand held controller
If disconnecting hoses and electrical, do not help in the settling of the deck.
You should look at the deck itself. Is it tweaked? Both sides come up the same and hold there?
Something being pinched at the pivot point? Pivot pins greased and not binding?
Being new there should, "hopefully", not be any problems!

Should only stay up for 7 hours max

Did they put in an "automatic drain function" that raises it enough to not hold water?

Hey folks thanks for all the advice and the funny quotes about the Viagra....so here we go with my solution to the problem and a little advice for anyone looking to buy one of these brand of trailers..... the problem I described persisted all week thing would go up and then it would even go down on its own...yes always about 6 inches again  I spoke with the local dealer and there answer was well homesteader does not make the hydraulics or the remote so you should really contact the makers of these components about the stray signals, leaky hydraulics or cylinder problems, ....... THAT WAS ENOUGH FOR ME....:duh:......I went to NAPA....:stirthepot:.....bought a battery cutoff switch a short battery cable and installed them between the battery and the pump.....after that install.... I had to take the power lead from the battery to the remote receiving box and run it to the same switch because the solenoid would still try to kick on and off with the remote even though the pump would not run because I had switched the power to the battery ........If this does not fix the problem I will post it for sale on here in a couple of days....

BOTTOM LINE: the trailer came with a one year warranty.....at 4 days old I was told they did not service all the working electrical or hydraulic parts on it......AND for 20 bucks and change and about an hours worth of time they could....(1) fix the problem before they sell them.... (2) Make customers happier..... And (3)...Most of all make their trailers safer.........

I am pretty sure I will never buy a Homesteader trailer

I would really raise a ruckus with that dealer. Demand another trailer or have them fix it!

Homesteader has an interesting attitude. They may not have made the electronic and hydraulic parts but I assume it was them who decided how to use said parts and assemble them into a system. What would happen if the trailer started to dump on it's own as you traveled down the highway ? To me they have a glaring safty flaw in their design.
