Finally got it clean, Someone dropped a lot JB weld on it and tried to wipe it off with caulk.

Close up of the weld that failed, lots slag left behind. A decent welder would taken it with him.

I just slapped some brass on it, if it breaks again I will order some of that tv fix it stuff. Wish I had a welding torch, perhaps Santa will bring one. Y'all have a good one!

Jody what is the object? And is it cast iron or cast steel? Looks like you did a pretty good job brazing.

It is a crystal foundry #2 bell frame. I have my great great great grandmothers it is very similar (#3). It was also broke and I brazed it about six years ago. I think it's cast iron, not too sure though. I used a high strength flux (blue) and bare rod and victor cutting torch with 0 tip.

A picture of the entire piece would have been handy.

I actually thought that was what it might be, but wasn't sure. Well I think you did about the best repair that could be done on it. "paint it black, and it won't come back":)

i agree.. that's a very nice looking repair.

PS.. I think that yellow glue did a much better job than those alloy 'magic' brazing rods you see on tv.

I mean.. I've used them.. but that bras run around there looks like it will be much better...

Great repair.. The only thing I would have done different is Spray Powder. No worries on it breaking again though,.

Funny - we have one also - with the same type of braze to repair the same type of break.... Your braze looks great by the way!

Sweet repair...curious how you held the pieces aligned (flat) while brazing ?

Thank y'all for nice words. The pieces were clamped to a 3/8" scrap plate with small vice grips. I wish I could have saved the #2 in the casting. It was cracked right through it. I tried to grind it back in but disc lacked finesse.

the disc may have lacked finesse...but obviously the operator didn't. ( fine work IMHO )

Back when I was restoring my International Scout. I came across a hole in the air filter which is an oil bath. Well it had a hole in it and me having a terrible gene for perfection I didn't want to J B Weld it. So I got cleaned up and brazed the hole with 45% silver silfos. I looked at it and was pleased. It wasn't easy trying to braze 22 gauge steel but I did it. It is like most brazing. Heat Control!

Hole is in the center of the picture.

All brazed up!

metal prep hangs in there too.
