Now the mfg recommendations are just that. Plus I take that part of the manual and throw it out the door. To me, it is the difference of being proactive vs reactive. You can do what they tell you in the book but you will not see a trend in wear or abnomal wear by doing oil changes all the time. To me, go by oil tests they are 100X better in the end.

I agree, I do not see any point at all in break in oil. It is 100% useless in my eyes.

My point in the MFG recomendations was that is your starting point. If you feel synthetic is necessary and you like to do tests, thats fine and it certainly wont hurt. Recomendations are just that and the minimum as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. If you are totally clueless that is a guide that will be handy in your situation.

And my point was that if anyone thinks doing what the MFG recommends is going to save you down the road, it will not. There is no peace of mind with this process I feel. You could do drains till the cows come home, but still not saving time and money.. You want piece on mind do a cheap oil tests. That is the proof in the pudding.

I do not find “synthetic is necessary” at all. The #1 reason for me is a cost, energy and time savings; or time management savings. The extra benefits are just that, extra or a bonus.
