Breakfast Warning roadkill story

I used to love squirrels, but haven't eaten any in more than 30 years now. Although if the opportunity presented itself, I'd sure have one to eat.
My wife runs bird feeders year round (other than when the bears emerge in the spring and the feeders come in at night). She is now the proud owner of a "Yankee flipper" and its cousin with that flip-down tray. Today I had a squirrel that left nose-prints on the patio door. Waiting for the opportunity to harvest a pile of grain fed squirrels in a week or so. Btw, last year I accidentally shot a few cow-birds...squirrels will eat meat.

Yeah I grew up eating it. Rolled in flour with salt and pepper then pan fried and don't forget the pan gravy. It tasted pretty good as I remember. That's how I learned to shoot too. Go squirrel hunting with a single shot, bolt action 22 and you learn to be a pretty good shot pretty quick. I don't have the same eyes I did then though.

I got my Remington .22 single shot bolt action rifle when I was 10 years old. Found more rabbits than squirrels, but I ate all I could find of either.

Wouldn't be a Remington Targetmaster, would it? I got mine when I was 13. My Dad bought the rifle from some guy needing money in about 1942.

Can't remember for sure but I think it was. When I was still a teenager, I traded up to a semi-auto .22. Didn't get any more game, but sure used a lot more bullets.

I used to collect pop bottles and turn them in for ammo money. We also brought our guns to show and tell and no one thought anything of it. LOL I can't imagine anything like that today. They'd have the local swat team out and it would probably make all the major national news shows. I think I finally traded my old single shot for a guitar or something.

And besides the guns, I've carried a pocketknife since I was 6 years old. And no one ever considered a pocketknife as a weapon.

Wish I had known this technique way back when!

Yep, used to put them on the school bus & go hunting in the afternoons after school, those were the days when guns were typically used for they were intended, of course, we all know it isn't the gun itself, just something for the crazies to blame.
