I bought a used 6 x 10 Brimar Dump Trailer and the tailgate is bent ( bowed ) somewhat. ( Pick-up truck style gate ) It doesn't fit tight at the lower edge. The previous owner had run it over with a tracked machine while it was laying on the ground.

Can someone tell me what one of the gates might cost ? I'm not sure if I want to replace it and I'm afraid of having a heart attack when I stop at the dealers place and ask about one.

It probably doesn't matter but the gate is black.

I'm glad I bought the trailer. I have already hauled around 30 loads with it. When spring hits I'll probably add another 30 to it.

Thanx for the info !!!

I think that I'd try to place it on the ground and run over it with the truck to straighten it again.

My poor little 5 X 8 Bri-Mar has been catching it since I bought it the end of August, almost 2,000 miles loaded, 24 loads of crushed rock at 55 total tons, 6 loads of pea gravel at 13 total tons, 20 loads of fill dirt at 45 total tons, and one 6,000# load of mortar sand. I put out almost $1,050 in load and fuel with almost $700 of that sold to people here. The rest is on my lots and I still have a bit more to haul in.

My tail gate is loose enough that the pea gravel will drop out if I kick the gate. I know that the gravel is also coming out when I hit bumps in the road so I made a set of gaskets to slip in the gaps in the gate and it seals tight now.

Good Luck with your gate.

I don't think the truck will straighten the gate but you got me thinkin'. I could yank it off the trailer and try to run it over with the loaded trailer. I don't think it will fix it though but it's worth a try.

I have hauled somewhere between 130 to 150 tons so far.

Can you post a pic?

If it still fit's "on the trailer" I cannot imagine having to replace it.

Have any freinds with a body shop?

I just bought myself a digital camera for Chritmas but I'm not allowed to open it yet. :D

It's not too bad, but it looks pretty beat up. I'll take a look at it. I do have a friend that works in a body shop. Could probably peel off the covering and straighten the structure and recover it.

It's not bad enough to worry about yet but it may get worse with use.

I guess if it is anything like my dump trailer tailgate, I think some good 4 X 4 blocks and some well placed sledge hammer hits would go a long way towards putting it back somewhat straight, or at least straight enough.

Many years ago I straightened the front frame on my daughters SUV by chaining it to a section of abandon railroad track and jacking it with a 25 ton bottle jack. Just a thought....

This would definately fix them problem !!!!
I think I'm going to try this method first. I have some heavy wall pipe laying around and some telephone poles. One of these may substitute for the steel rail.

Thanx for all the options guys !!!!

If that doesn't work..... i'd probably take it to a steel fab shop. They can probably straighten/reinforce it cheaper than a dealer can sell you a new OEM tailgate.
