I can understand the safety reasons for pulling in reverse. But I wouldn't try this while in 4WD on a tractor like yours. I'd be in 2WD for sure.

I'm very careful not to overstress the 4WD on my Kubota B7510HST/LA302 FEL (21HP engine vs your 27HP). My understanding is that these "front wheel assist" vehicles are not really 4WD tractors. You can tell just by looking at the size difference in the front and back tires and drive trains that the front end is the normal weak link.

To show how cautious (or overcautious, take your pick) I am, when I use the FEL while in 4WD to scoop dirt, etc., I use the FEL to lift the front wheels a few inches as I slide, rotate and lift the bucket. I figure that way I won't do a number on the front end just moving dirt around.

This has been some good info for me. I'm about to start clearing out some woods that was devastated by pine beetles three years back. Naturally I knew to pull from a low point but hadn't given any thought that doing so in reverse could be detramental. Should I be in situation that I need to drag a log in reverse I take it that I should do so with the front differential disengaged, in doing so, would it actually be any stronger than pulling from the rear in forward direction?
