Sorry. I was referring to the plugs in the nuts. Now did you get those out (gosh, does that make sense?)

There are 4 holes on the bottom of the hub. 2 occupied by bolts that hold the mower blades and two occupied by ???? How do I get those ??? out? Do I fight them out, or is there a trick? Is it removing the hub and getting them out?

Sorry just wondering how this all works...

ps. I just re-read this and it is all in a light tone. not sure if that comes through...

Hey Moss. Super Helpful!!!!

Also, you guys have made "rubber bounceback" shims so the bolts are not getting banged on on blade recoil. How is that working out, and does anyone have some good detailed pictures that are more current than the ones on the site?

Carl

I have attached two pictures of the rubber bounceback shims. They are made of horse mat. I have been using these about 8 hours and no problems, but I have not stressed them much.

Yeah. It is frustrating to ask questions via text and not face to face. So you're saying two of the nuts hold blades on and two of the nuts just have plugs visible? Sounds like bolts driven in from behind, maybe? I'd recommend removing the hub just to see what's back there. Can't hurt to investigate a little further. :)

I just inspected the underside of the bushhog today and one of the rubber bounceback shims was missing. The bolt was still there. That seems like a short life (8 hours), but the bolts are still intack. I guess I need to make a bunch of the bumpers. The other bumper looks fine.

Dear Bob,

What about a different material with reinforcement, like a polyester tire, or sidewall? Or a couple layers of reinforced hose?

Just a few thoughts...

Good luck! I love the concept.

Good point. The rubber mat does not have any fibers or reinforcements in it. I will see what I can find.

I think im following you. My mower has a hub with four holes in it, evenly spaced around it with a larger hole in the middle to bolt it to the motor spindle. Two of the apposing holes have bolts that attach the blades and the other two have bolts in them that act as bumpers for the blades to keep them from jamming up on the hub if you hit something.

If you look at the hub on my mower right now, you'll see that one of those "bumper" bolts is gone, sheared off and the hole is now plugged. I'll remove it with an "easyout"
