I'm good at breaking things I guess. I'm still pretty new to tractors and didn't think a missing nut would cause this issue. I have a koyker 160 FEL with a Joystick valve. What should I do to fix this? The end broke right off of the the valve for my up and down movement of the FEL. See the pictures I've included.

If you removed the damaged spool, and if you knew a good welder that could heat sink the spool to keep from distortion, and weld the top, and then drill and tap/die. Just maybe. If not, then a new joystick valve would run about $220 to $300.

It would be nice to only replace the spools in hyd valves, but they are a precision fit, so off the shelf replacement is not available.

That's one thing I was thinking about doing. I will attemp to remove the spool and take it to my place of employment. I work in IT at a large wholesale greenhouse where they do a lot of custom fabrication work. We have quite a few tallented welders.

I would not recommend welding the spool....the heat would/could change the tolerances and possibly create stiction......rather drill and tap for a "new" end piece....but I would definitely first identify the the model# of this Italian valve....and check for parts...the spool is most likely replaceable....

I have never seen a replacement spool offered for sale...because of the honed/lapped fit they require in the bore of the valve body. You have more experiance than me for sure around larger hydraulic equipment-But I know these smaller systems pretty well I think.

Why do you think the parts man can get a spool off the shelf and it work as good as new. I just don't think that they sell a lot of spools. From my understanding, in fitting spools to valves at the factory and testing it for leaks, they might go through 5 or 6 to find the right one that passes the leak test.

jpowell86 would probably have to go back to the parts dealer several times to get a spool that met his expectation as to number of drops allowed to leak.
Then again, maybe not, might be good to go on the first spool purchased.

How old is the valve? Has it been used a lot?

Why just expect something without checking first???...Valves are made such a in such a different way nowadays ....precision and tolerances is on another level....and many valves have spool programs that makes it possible to change spools after manufacturing....
For example there are many prince valves that have optional spools...and they are not honed and specially fitted of the warehouse or retailer shelf ....

Watch these videos from Swedish Olsberg manufacturing hydraulic valves for HIAB truck cranes
Casting the housing

Robots machining the valve parts

Italy is one of the worlds leading manufacturers of hydraulic hardware.....so I do expect spare spools....then it is another thing if they are available as parts in US....

I certainly agree with CNC precision, and when new could be switched out for an optional spool, etc. After a valve body and spool are worn, the likely hood of renewing the valve just by spool replacement is minimal. If a spool used o-rings in the high pressure areas, then the spools could probably be rebuilt.

It appears that the spool has been welded once before. There are grinding marks around the area and some discoloration of the metal from heat. I'm going to have one of the guys I know try to weld it. If that don't work maybe a whole new valve setup. This is supposed to be a dinoil valve according to koyker's documentation. I did some searching for dinoil which had spools on their site. That's where I'm at so far. Thanks for all of your responses this far.

Hope it all works out for you. Everything seems to break when you need it most.....
