Broken HST/ No Reverse= HUGE $ to Fix!

hey Mike - great PS addition - my L345 could use an assist like that - it has a hydraulic motor at the bottom of the steering column but it's pretty anemic.
Thanks, the biggest plus is no wheel wrenching when going over a rut.

....Since you have other tractors for lifting, you should not have a hard time removing the FEL and FOPS...and it is SO good that no one has taken it apart before you got your hands on it.
my workspace has a lift and heat but the door header is about 1" lower than the L48's hat - so I lifted it off with the 345. The loader looks like it could stay if the mainframe has to go. And I do like knowing I have all its parts.

You should be able to chisel that inch away with the loader or backhoe!!!

Too late now but you could have let some air out of the tires so as to lower roll bar 2"s

Or he could just take the roll bar off, as he will anyway, and it would probably be easier outside! :)

Rears are full of beet juice - would make quite a mess. Also, HST may be too weak in reverse to move on flat tires.

If you can try to take plenty of pictures. I'm real curious about Kubota's HST design and what went wrong.

I'm just about willing to put money down that it is not in the rotating group (pump & motor) part of the hydrostat. I would think at this point the problem will likely be in the servo/control parts. I'm not sure why the original dealer jumped to such an extreme estimate. It not only gives them a bad name but all dealers.

I agree - so much so that I did put money down. I think the dealer was giving scary numbers to push CF toward buying a new tractor. Then they could park the L48 out back, fix it cheap next winter when the shop is slow, and make out on both ends. I offered CF more, hoping to pitch my tent under the dealer's, which was too high and no way to treat a long-standing customer.

I think you're right it has to be something in the valving. The three pump/motors are all common to both directions of travel so it shouldn't be with them. Another thing I've noticed is it is not consistent. Sometimes it moves in reverse better than others. Once today it seemed to move back in high almost as fast as might be expected in low. I was moving it out of my shop at the time - a higher-priority job needs the bay - somebody clobbered my son's car today - he's fine but his Honda needs some work to be drivable. My friends say I'm happy when something needs fixing - guess they have a point.

Many dealers don't want to do that kind of job at all, so a high price is a way of
pushing the customer to a new unit as you say. The dealer that took my broken B21 in on
a trade is a big Kubota dealer and they just sent the broken unit off to auction.

I also lean toward what Brian said, so I would also gamble on bad control
components over bad HST pump/motor.

"three pump/motors"? In the HST?
