Broken hydraulic Cylinder Case

Ha ha, I am a perpetual transient. Problem with that is when I need a toll 'here' it is 'there. ' Frustrating.

It never goes the right way sometimes.

Xlent content my friend. Did I miss-say aluminum somewhere? No, the tricky cast iron here. I will take a photo of my "attempt." So many shops wouldn't touch it because 'it is likely to fail, ' well, we'll see-hopefully not.
Just got a good deal: Met an airport owner who provides quasi-heated storage, and he allows access for repairs . So I have a Polaris in there so I thought I'd put T1 on my trailer and put it in. No excuses for not getting it done. But even with essentially one hand I continue work on a very large deck (???)

I asked the cast maker (surgery #8 on left hand, last week)View attachment 772835 to surprise me on my surgically repaired hand and she chose the pink. Tough.

I too thought about a mechanical abutment of sorts, but haven't gotten there yet. Just want to avoid another failure. The worse case scenario, of course would have the welds fail and re-damage the case and/or hydraulic cover.
Can I ask you, in the event some foreign materials entered the case during repair, would you suggest a flush of sorts, perhaps kerosene?

Kerosene or diesel flush would be a good idea.

If you are planning to sell your machine fast on CL get the case welded and use gobs of thick paint to hide your sins and seal any short term leaks.

Your casing is FUBAR.

I would go the silicon bronze filler/TIG method on the cast iron too. Probably add some steel straps too. To use some non broken areas for support.

You could even go all the way down to that steel bracket bolted below the PTO shaft.

I doubt this was caused by simply lifting the three point. The first post indicates an auger (possibly stuck?) in the ground and attempts to free or redirect it. We don't have the full story here but the tractor was probably moving in one direction or another in that attempt so the forces applied to the lift arms weren't strictly from the hydraulics.

You are correct sir. Auger was locked in tight in clay. Dummy me, rocked tractor a bit and the housing broke apart. My heart sank. I can weld but not cast iron so I brought it to a pro. FINALLY putting it back together. Hope it holds. Should I flush trans case?

That picture looks almost like the case on a buddy's Kubota Grand L that he mounted a 3 point mount backhoe on. Kubota warranted it the first time, he did it a second time and ate the total cost. If I remember, the total was (parts and labor and lubricant) was around 6500 bucks. Needless to say, the BH was sold and later the tractor as well.

Good reason to never buy a 3PH mounted hoe with no subframe.

Welding cast iron isn't difficult really. You can either O/A weld it or TIG it, but either method requires careful pre heating and extended cooling. The issue with welding it is the lubricant that has migrated into the case material and it has to be removed which is involved by itself.
