Broken Keys for 2006 4320, not anymore

Why does JD put the key where they do? Keys are dime a dozen, but when you can not get the broken key out it becomes an issue. When you forget it just once, snap!!! No more for me. !!!!! I ended up not being able to get one out so I got an aftermarket switch. Didn't even check OEM price! I wonder why? It has been a great machine overall. I cannot imagine I am the only one that breaks the key. It is somewhat congested under the shroud. Hindsight, I should have looked closer to maybe put, the new switch where the light switch is, and put the light switch elsewhere. I think there would have been enough room for the switch and the connector there. If considering this for yourself beware of the amount of room needed for the switch and plug, once the plastic shroud is where it should be.

You might not ever break off another key, but where you mounted that is going to be a constant source of moisture contamination forever.

It has a light coat of clear silicone all around it, and where the key goes in. Not inside, just around key to switch

You only read part of it, but that's ok. I will take my chances. I think if we can put a man on the moon I can seal that. Of your 2,000 plus posts, I bet a high percentage finds fault. No need to respond back, please just keep scrolling to another

I agree with Harry you may not break another key off but I'll bet keeping moisture out of inside of switch will be difficult unless tractor is stored under a cover.

In the 27 years of my 4300, don't recall ever even bumping the key where it is located. But doesn't mean it can't happen.
Where you have mounted it, not a problem if kept inside out of the weather.

Typically key switches located like that will use a plastic "umbrella" molded onto the key that fits over the switch to keep water out. Without that, the switches have a tendency to fail pretty quick if out in the weather.

Might see if you can find a key like that for your switch.
