Yes/No/Maybe;) It depends on where you are if it is the same fuel or not....

It varies by location. But here there is absolutely no difference between off road and road except the color. Comes from the same tanks and tankers. My thoughts your BIL is a missinformed old biddy.
Same goes for diesel home heating oil & fuel oil here.

There is no way the dye could clog a filter. Think about it...if you could filter out the dye, some enterprising soul, such as myself who stays but one step ahead of the law, would do that, then sell the fuel as on-road.

Seriously, the dye is MUCH too fine to get trapped by a filter.

So your saying the only real difference is taxed fuel vs. untaxed(or lower taxed) dyed fuel?

In some parts of the country, that is true. In others, it is false. You'd have to know where the fuel comes from. Some distribution terminals still have high sulfur; others don't.

he mentioned clogging injectors or lines or causing some problems in that field. maybe not the filter. he said it is not as efficient also as far as gallons per hour and is dirty stuff and he works in the woods with heavy equipment and talks to the mechanics and stuff. here in maine how can i tell if its different or not? ask the guys that fill the tank or the owners? Its a pump at a station that sells off road. currently $3.30 hehe NOT CHEAP!!

FWIW, I would lump everything this guy says from now on under the category of "Suspected to be Bogus."

It is every bit as efficient (ie, contains just as many BTUs) as on-road fuel.

The dye, if it can't clog a filter, sure can't clog an injector line, injection pump, injector, or return line. It will not damage any of those things, either.

edit: The station owner might know, but doubtful. You'd have to ask the guy who delivers fuel to the station.
