Rotary Cutter BROWN 472 brush cutter max dismeter brush mowing

I have mowed 2-3" in. sapplings and the mower and tractor handled it. It wasn't smooth like nothing happened but the sappling was mowed down. It will be hard on the tractor PTO, that's what I worry about. The mower is cheaper to repair...

Believe it or not i have never sharpened the blades on my bush hog squealer or 286 and both mow pastures great. Again i think blade tip speed is a big factor. By they way dull blades are best as they just splinter up saplings vs making a nice sharp tire puncher for later. Lol.

Have you used it on anything around 2-3" saplings? If so how does it handle it? I will use mine on some saplings around 3" if I can, not often, but if I come across one I'll try to mow it over and hope that it's not too much for the mower. I'd hate to break a something the first few times I use it!

I have a Brown 484 and have been very happy with it. Just make sure you familiarize yourself with adjusting the slip clutch to save on your PTO as I doubt you will hurt that mower. I would highly recommend adding the chain guards to the front and back of the mower if it does not already have them. Good Luck and let us know what you think.

Well, I'm on my way home with my new mower! I was even able to use the guys nice NH tractor to load it.
I can't wait to give it a test run!

Thats impressive. Nothing on the rear of the new holland and handled that heavy brown with no issues. I recently sold a lighter 5ft Hardee cutter to a guy with a 50hp kubota. He tried to pick it up with front loader to remove from my trailer which was on a slight angle of a hill and almost flipped him over. Scared The heck out of both of us.

It looks like a good unit. It's a little cleaner than mine - and the rubber rear skirt is still there on yours!
Have fun - you'll like how competent it is - nothing fazes it.

Sawtooth, I wouldn't have been able to unload this without a good amount of ballast on my tractor, but with a 1200lb stumpgrinder in the back I had no issues.
That NH was a joy to operate! I really liked that size tractor, much bigger than mine but didn't seem too big to maneuver well either. The only thing I didn't like was it was a basic transmission so you needed to clutch for everything. I think if it had been a hydraulic shuttle tranny I would have made him an offer!

I got the cutter home with no issues but had to wait a few days to get it off the trailer. It looks to be in very good shape with no cracked welds or bent sheet metal. The only bent metal is one of the lift arms going to the top link has a couple small bends in it where the other is straight. I may try to straighten that someday. It does have some spots of light surface rust. I'd like to repaint it over the winter and make it look like new.
I called Brown and they sent me a set of new decals at no charge so all I need now is paint and prep work!
The front curtain is torn up a bit and I may replace it with chains someday but it won't be any time soon.

I was pleasantly surprised that when I went through it to grease it, all the zirc fittings took grease easily and I could tell it had been greased before as well. He must have taken care of it.

The underside has typical rust from use and sitting in a field. The blades have met some rocks in the past and aren't perfect, but at in fine shape. They will only continue to meet more rocks with my use!

Here are some pics.

Congrats! Not sure what you paid for it, but you will be very happy with that mower. It will handle the 3" stuff. If you're concerned, you can always raise the mower up and then let it down to grind up the larger saplings. That way it doesn't have to chew the whole tree up at once.

Let's see some pics of that disc too.

Well, quite honestly, I'm not really sure what I paid for it either

The deal we made, was I would buy the brush hog and the disc plow, for $1,150, PLUS, I would mill him enough lumber to build a shed roof lean-to addition to his barn.

If you count the time it took me to fell the tree, buck it up, load it on the mill, mill it into boards (5 logs total) and then drive 6hrs (gas) one way to deliver the lumber and pick up the mill, then I probably have a good $1,500 or more into it. However, I really don't count my labor because I like to mill as a hobby, and don't do it for hire. I have traded lumber for other items in the past as well, and I like to do things this way as I have fun doing it, and the money stays in my bank account!

I'll try to post some pics later of the disc plow. I have never used one, never knew they existed, and really don't know what I'll use it for, but I wanted it because it looked so "beefy" and I thought it was a cool attachment.

At the end of the day, we were both very happy with the deal we made. Plus I got a chance to run his NH TD-80 around and on top of that, his wife made me venison burgers, venison chilli, garlic bread and a Shipyard Pumpkin Ale (one of my favorites) for dinner. In my mind, I made out pretty darn well after that dinner :D

Re: BROWN 472 brush cutter max diameter brush mowing

Here are some pictures of the disc plow. I loaded it on the trailer with his TD80. It was harder to load this than the brush hog, because I couldn't get it to lay down on it's side on the trailer, and I didn't want it to stand up like it was because it was so top heavy, I knew if I went around a corner it would want to tip over.

I haven't used it yet, but I'm excited to try it out. I have a driveway to put in and I since I need to scrape off the topsoil, I was thinking of using this to break up the topsoil and use the bucket to remove the loose soil, getting down to harder packed dirt/gravel underneath.
