You can do that but you'll need an emulsifier to enable the oil and water to mix, like this:

One drawback is that your fence row will reek of diesel.

You can also get commercial surfactant for herbicide application. It destroys the surface tension of water, which lets the spray flow across the leaves instead of beading up, so more soaks in.

I use Gordons Pasture Pro. To kill trees, the strongest mix is 16 oz. to 1 gallon of diesel. Spray the lower 2 ft of the trunk of a 6" or smaller tree in late winter. If I understand it correctly, the diesel fuel keeps the chemical in a liquid state longer than water because it doesn't evaporate as fast, giving it more time to be absorbed.

I use a mix for weeds in the pasture...this allows grass to grow and flourish while removing the weeds.....

but along boarders and around trees where I want everything gone.....I use either Ground clear or Glyphosate
both clear everything down to the dirt.....even kills trees if you spray to much of it.

I've always found that Roundup(industrial strength) and a good dose of surfactant will kill just about anything I spray it on. Watch out for overspray - it kills just as well.

I kill wild roses and Buck brush with this mixture. Plus any plants that happen to get sprayed also.

"Gordons brush killer" from TSC, is about the best bang for the buck on the market.

Do you find that these products are really that selective? If you spray your lawn with them, does the desirable grass escape injury?
And have you had any experience with Japanese Stilt Grass?
