Brush Hog or Finish

If you want it to look like a golf course, get a finish mower, otherwise for field grasses the brush hog will do an amazingly good job. And, with the brush hog you have the flexibility of being able to get a good cut when the grass gets tall.

I sold my finish mower a couple of years ago, because I couldn't see taking the "hog" off and putting the finish mower on, when I was perfectly satisfied with the cut of the brush hog.

You can't beat Rhino in my opinion.

Hi makwa,

I'd get that cutter... then you have it for the bigger stuff and take that other 1k you were going to spend and get a little rider for around the house & areas the bush hog gouges first times out...

You can buzz through the "field" with that hog fast & not worry about damage so much (plus only 1 gearbox to worry about--no belts)... and the cut can be pretty good!

Then use your rider where you really have contours/want a smooth cut.

Truth of the matter is, once you start getting wide on one piece finish mowers, the worst your finish ends up, and the greater likeliehood of scalping & gouging (just can't follow contours as well).

That what I'd do if I set that money aside for mowing...

Good luck!

The mowers appear to be Bushhog brand. If so, prices seem good. The brush hog will give you more flexibility on what you can mow as far as height of grass and rougher terrain. The finish mower will give a more uniform look to the job, especially with the rear discharge you're looking at. It's all in what you're wanting to accomplish. Some places I can't use anything but the brush hog, while others the finish mower gives a good clean cut. Good Luck.

I had the same dilemma, having 10 ac of field grass with nothing bigger than 1/4" around to mow over. I tried a few RFMs when I was demo-ing a couple of different brands and am very glad. It took care of the field, no problem and I'm not going to even consider a rotary cutter (still haven't bought a tractor)

Thanks guys for all the input.

I am going with the brush hog. The brush hog is made by bushhog ( Blksim , good eye). The money I save on that will go to purchase a rake and blade from the same company.

Thanks for the input.
