I am trying to kill off woody brush and vines. The stuff I have been using works fairly well but it requires a lot of product per Gallon of mix. ( requires 4 to 8 oz per gallon) so it gets fairly expensive. Don't want to use roundup because I have some grass.

Can anyone recommend a product that works reasonably well and is not too expensive.

Thanks

Crossbow. One gallong of concentrate makes 100 gallons ready to use.

Another endorsement of Crossbow -- I use a 1.5% mixture (2 ounces per gallon of water) in spraying Chinese privet.

Crossroad is a generic version of Crossbow available at Rural King -- http://www.ruralking.com/crossroad-brush-killer-1-gal-generic-replacement-for-crossbow.html?utm_medium=cse&utm_source=google&CAWELAID=1624235191&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=520009190000031013&cadevice=c&gclid=CKWG54n2nL4CFdDm7AodMS4AyQ.

There is an old product that works well I think it is called bil e goat. Sorry I just don't like to have poison on me and I bet if you knew how much you actually got on you when you spray it would scare you.

Poison is everywhere Ed, if you look what's in a bottle of shampoo, you'll never wash your hair again.

Can you spray crossbow on a pasture to kill the weeds and not kill Bermuda grass?

It is a little overkill IMHO to spray over pasture. We only use it to spot spray fence rows, ect. But it is a selective herbicide that targets broadleaf plants so your Bermuda should be fine.

EDIT: I just went over the label to be sure and found no mention of Bermuda.

Grazon P+D would be a better choice for pastures since it is designed for pastures. Hence the name Grazon (graze on).

The problem with Grazon is it is incredibly persistent. The manure of animals fed hay sprayed with Grazon will kill plants.

I've had good luck with brush using a triclopyr/glyphosate blend. Both break down very quickly in the soil.

They say goats will clear brush and stuff. Cheap and they fertilize the soil at the same time. HAHA

Did the OP say that animals are in the area....I don't remember that, and that is why I suggested it. If you want it dead, this will do it....and IF an animal gets into it the animal will not be harmed.

Dozens of brand names out there to represent a mere handful of ingredients or blends. Generics aplenty if you read some labels, so what's in a name? Once you learn the chemicals & their traits (selective or not, carry over or not, etc) you only have to do some math to mix up your concentration.

Learn a few ingredients' characteristics (what they do & don't do), mix %s, and go from there, ... or pay top dollar to have the maker decide for you.

Thanks for the link, tj! We're all somewhere on a learning curve with this stuff ....

Please let me know how many goats it takes to clear an acre and how long and what about water?what kind of maintenance I need to plan on for the goats and what I will need to do when everything grows back. Do they eat everything or are they selective. How do you contain and protect them.
