Brush pile near pond

I'm learning something here. I would have said burn it. Now I think I would check PH first.

One of my friends bought a place to keep their horses. It had a ditch full of brush and trash. They started to clean it out and found a couple of trash bags that were heavy. They opened them up and found an old projector and a lot of film in cans. They plugged it in and it worked. So they threaded up some films and -- surprise -- they were home-made porno movies, very old from the looks of the styles, like 30's and 40's. And -- surprise -- they recognized the people as their new neighbors in their younger days. So might want to check out that ditch before burning.

I would have hated to watch that of my neighbors would have definitely wish burned it...

I'd be inclined to just let it rot in place, 2nd choice is to burn in place.

My guess is next to nothing.

That's why I said in one of my previous posts that after seeing the pics I don't think there is enough there to worry about. Me, i'd stuff some newspaper in there and strike a match.

Pics don't really show it all. It's about 5' to 6' tall by 40' long, along with some large 15' to 20' logs as well. The pond has some great fishing, so I don't want to approach lightly. I will most likely get a PH test done of the pond, then go from there..... But it's an eye sore for me, so I gotta do something soon.

Still not that huge. Maybe get the brush and limbs out and leave the logs to decay? Then put the brush on something you want to try to get rid of ( stump or roots ) and burn it there.

It is hard to tell from the photos but if you can get the bucket down into the pile you might be able to move it. I have been surprised at what my tractor can move. Pallet forks work well for this as well. Basically you push forward with the tractor while raising the bucket at the same time. Sometimes you angle the bucket/pallet forks down, and while moving forward, raise and curl the bucket up to lift and move the pile. What you are doing is moving and rolling the pile. The angle of the ditch as well how muddy it is will indicate if you can do this. I would just burn the pile in place, and if you are really worried about the ashes, shovel them out. Ashes ain't heavy.

The advantage of burning in the ditch is that it will help contain the fire and it will concentrate the heat to get a good burn.

Later,
Dan
