i think the OP will be real lucky if the pto clutch is not totally gone.

Both oil imersed independent and dual stage clutch types.

slipping is ultra tough on them.

I worked on a jd 2240 with ind pto.. it had a clutch start slipping. I puleld it apart.. the clutch discs ( stack of them ) have almost no lining on them new. IE. disc and double sided bonded lining is like 1/16" and has a stack of them. they run in oil and are meant to slip only an instant then be solid drive. constant slipping for even a single mow can strip that ultra thin media from the near paper thin metal discs.

On dual clutch models, aside from freeplay, there may be realitively little adjustments to be made if the media is wore past serviceable limits.

best of luck either way.. some of them pto clutch parts, if a ind model, are not cheap.

$1200 later PTO clutch replaced and finally back in the tractor
