Bucket Lip

I just finished adding a lip to the top of my bucket to help keep the dirt in it.Not sure of the proper name for it but I will call it a spill guard.I didn't like the dirt falling out the back of the bucket and hitting the tractor.Quite often rocks would fall and get jammed in the bucket linkage.This probably won't stop this entirely but should certainly stop a lot of it.I noticed most larger equipment has buckets made this way but most CUTs don't.I used 3/16" steel for everything but the pipe which is 1 and 1/4" schedule 80.I figure I added less than 50 pounds total to the weight of the bucket which shouldn't make a lot of difference,especially considering I don't have the weight of a quick detach system.I wasn't real fussy with the paint job as the bucket will be back in the dirt very soon.I have added some photos.

great idea, the first week I dropped a large rock n my new tractor hood, knocking head lights out. I tipped the back back to far while looking backwards when backing up with a full bucket and I was not paying attention . That would have prevented this incident.

It's also useful for hauling lightweight things like woodchips and manure. I could get a lot more in each bucket, and spill a lot less, with that setup.

I was thinking the same thing. Snow and split firewood always spill over the top.

Very nice work, I have been thinking of adding one to my FEL to help with snow, mulch and brush moving. Now I'm going to have to get to work!

Great, I'll have to make on and adapt it to fit around my grapple...Although with mulch and chips the grapple clamped down does a good job of reducing the spill as well.

I also have a bolt on cutting edge (not pictured) that extends the bucket lip by 3+ inches and increases capacity

Maybe just add bolt-on or pin-on wings to the grapple for when you need to hold mulch and stuff...

Oh I really like that bucket lip...and I know exactly what you mean about rocks and sand spilling out. Very good mod.:thumbsup:

I have used the FEL quite a bit over the last few days and can say the lip is a definite improvement.The spillage over the top of the bucket is much less than before and no rocks have gotten caught in the bucket linkage.

Very nice spill gard looks like a factory backhoe bucket only missing the rounded back to make digging more easy. I like it :thumbsup: I wish the b26 had a spill gard on it.
