The bottom end of each riser has a hole drilled in it for a lynch pin. The pins act as stops when I raise the canopy, so the canopy is even, side-to-side and front-to-back.

This view shows the risers welded to the bottom of the slider guide.

Here, the pin bumps against the bottom of the riser guide with the canopy in the raised position.

This shot shows how I dealt with a problem you probably won't have to contend with. I believe, Bob, that your 4710 and all the 4x00s and 4x10s have ROPS with parallel uprights. On the JD 55-series of CUTs the uprights of the ROPS slant toward the back of the tractor (from a side view) and they slant toward each other as they approach the top cross bar. That means that raising or lowering the U-bolt brackets that clamp onto the ROPS will narrow or widen the sliders. Drilling holes in the fiberglass top limits me to one position for the brackets on the ROPS (which may or may not be easy to find if the brackets ever need to be remounted). So, I made a short length of lipped channel from a piece of square tubing, and now there is a little leeway for adjustment....and no hole in the fiberglass top.

Hi Garry,
With the riser set-up on my canopy, just pulling the 4 lynch pins allows me to lift the canopy, sliders and risers right out of the riser guides. i.e. fast field removal/placement and no tools required. The brackets stay attached to the ROPS. Although the canopy is not heavy, it is just heavy and awkward enough to best be a two man job. You possibly could do it by yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm definitely saving this thread in my file to reference down the line!

Thanks for the info.! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks George for all the close-up shots. You've done quite a nifty job pulling together all these pieces and fabricating them into something useful. I remember telling Harv (moderator) that he should seek a patent on his ROPS toolbox set-up. I'll give you the same commendation. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Job well done.

Garry...

You'd be a lot happier with the Bucktop canopy than any canvass one you could rig up. It's a little pricey but it's the top of the line one. I'm very pleased with it's appearance and fiberglass construction.

I have every confidence that you will get your tractor. It took me about 3 years of looking, researching, waiting, and saving until I took the plunge myself. The wait was hard but what you're doing now is the right thing. Researching, learning, copying and printing out those old TBN threads on different topics, and saving. You'll get your tractor yet /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Bob and Garry,

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Thank you both for the kind words. Your comments are much appreciated.

Hey, George!

I just peeked at your profile! The first thing I saw is that you're a golfer! ALRIGHT!! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Keep it down the middle!!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

But then I saw that you're in Oklahoma City. I was there a couple of times at the Transportation Safety Institute for some mass transit training. Never could get used to seeing all of those Coast Guardsmen running around the building in the middle of Oklahoma! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Now for my question - Is Molly's still one of the happening places? That place was one of the most enjoyable places to have dinner anywhere I've been. We had Tarzan one night, and darned if he didn't come swinging in on a rope with the bread for our table in the other hand. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Do they still send the "newbies" on a merry chase when they want to go to the restroom?

For those who think I've gone around the bend, Molly's is a terrific restaurant in O.K. City where all the wait people are dressed up like cartoon characters. You might find Dick Tracy, Lil' Abner, Fred Flintstone, etc. And these characters, mostly college students from Tulsa, really get into the act.

George should really describe what goes on there since it's been so long since I've been there. But it was definitely a memorable place! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif
