You know, I thought about something very similar to this. The only thing that stops me is the tought of someone or something accidentaly hitting the joystick and me being pushed up and pinned to the front of the ROPS. Worse yet, if someone curls that bucket, those control valves will end up in my... well... right between my legs, so-to-speak. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I plan on putting my seat between the quick attach and the boom swivel point, so my hoe will probably stick out 4 feet farther than yours. I also thought about cantileavering a seat up and back over the lift arms, but still attached to the hoe. That would allow me to shorten it up about three feet, and still have the seat attached to the hoe so it would be stay with the hoe when detached from the PT.

I found a local source for LONG 1" grade 8 bolts. 14" long for the main pin is only $13.00. That's pretty good.

I have all the pieces for the boom pivot boxes cut out and ready to go together. I will order the bolts in two weeks. They will take 2-3 days to come in. So, in about three weeks, I will start welding again and get it done to the point that I will be able to start fitting hydraulics.

I have some other projects and family stuff to do over the next couple weeks, like yard work, remove a tree in the back yard, get the pool opened and cleaned, several family functions and a small vacation in there as well.

Before you weld up that box for the pivot, drill two grease fittings holes in the tube inside the box, and then some access holes for the grease fittings in the box

I'm going to use the main PTO for the hydraulics. That way I'll have the most potential available. I can always throttle down if it is too much. Also, the main PTO can only be hooked up one way, while the AUX can be accidentally reversed and the AUX PTO lever would have to be help up or down somehow.

The plans call for the grease fittings to be through the box and tube on the back side. To grease it, I will have to pivot the unit to one side or the other. Or I could put in a 90 degree fitting. There is about 1/2 inch clearance between the box and the frame when it is turned side to side. More when it is straight on. I will check which type of fitting will fit best. I think a straight fitting would be better so that when I pivot the unit to one side, that will give me plenty of leg and elbow room VS having the unit at 0 degrees.

Note to self...

Do not let the T frame of the backhoe stand alone on edge while welding... your wife and kids may drive up while you have your welding helmet on and think it fun to toot the horn of the car. Then you might look up, turn to wave and knock said T frame over onto both of your feet... that may hurt!

Here's some pictures of today's progress.

It pivots veery easily on that fine digging bar that I am using for a temporary pivot pin! So easy, that it will flip right around and hit you if you aren't careful. The boom lifts well past vertical and is also very easy to move. The entire boom assembly will pivot a bit over 180 degrees. Pretty nice. I'm not sure how to make the linkage go all the way to 180, but I think I can get it 90 to one side and probably 60 to the other.

J_J, if you read this, how many degrees of pivot do you have? Can you describe the pivot linkage?

J_J, if you read this, how many degrees of pivot do you have? Can you describe the pivot linkage?

David, I don't think I get the full 180. It's more like 80/80, I am thinking about making one side a full 90 degrees. I will just have to switch the turning cylinder to the other side. for working in that direction, or just turn the PT around. Some machines use two cylinders to turn the boom. You will probably have to do some trial and error. I will be out of town for a week , renunion, etc in S.C.
