I have a 6 ft scraper blade and would like to turn it into a box blade. What is the best way to go about this and if at all possible I would like to make it removable. I've got a few ideas but this will be my first customization. If I was to take two pieces of say 1/8 inch steel plate with some brackets welded on for the sides and either round or square tube for support in between the sides. Will this work?? This will be used for light leveling and moving small amounts of material. Which is better to use square or round tube and what is cheaper??

Here is one I made with 1/4" plate on the sides and 4" square tubing .

Mansker did you mount the sides even with the bottom of the blade or did you leave the blade lower than the sides?

I welded the side plates even with the blade but I rounded them in front a little to keep it from digging in !

Mansker,
That's a very nice blade you've created right down to the trailer ball on the back.

Should I weld the sides on and make it a box blade always or try to make it so I'll be able to take it off and just use the blade. Will I still be able to use the blade like I have in the past with the sides on??? Thanks for the help.
