Building a pole barn, but what to do about doors?

Hold on there. New member, first post and only two pictures. What's the big idea? I need to see some more pictures of the inside of your building. Pole building with block base?
I was wondering about that myself! BTW: :welcome:

You can buy premade stall doors. I see them in horse magazines. I use 1" square tubing, sort of thick walled, my cheap metal bandsaw and my Hobart welder. I skin with plywood. The joy of homebuilt is my openings are around 48" give or take 1/4" which could be frustrating. My big sliding doors were done on a frame of 1.5" square tubing allowing me a 11"' wide and 10' tall opening to drive the hay trailer through.

I like the idea of metal frames on the doors. We always had dutch doors on the old barns, but even when they were only 3 feet wide, we would have sagging problems over time. With 4 foot width, I think metal bracing and lots of hinges would be a good idea.

Hi Mike and Gizmo2,

I live in Florida, but the barn is in Georgia at my cabin. We have had numerous tornados over the past 10 years in and around are area. Reason's for the block, at a later date I want to put decorative stone on the block to dress it up. I feel it looks better because of the splash back from the drip edge, and most important, I anchored everything into the foundation to assist in the storms we have.

As for the doors, you don't have to worry about lossing space because of tracks, because there are no tracks. All of your hardware is bolted to the 6X6 and not into a 2 by, thus no hole in the tin. When the doors are up, it gives you a clean look and when they are down, they are VERY secure. Hope this helps, I will be in Georgia over the New Year, if your really want to see more pics, let me know. You all take care and have a Very Merry Christmas and a Awesome New Year!

You can cut a channel in the loft, enough for the thickness of the door and put the drum in the loft.

I like metal frames for the doors as well. Mine are out of 2.25" 12ga tubing, to match the rest of the barn, but smaller tubing would be fine. I went that big to be able to use 2x rough cut inside the frame.
