Building dump trailer

wushaw

Great thread and thanks for posting the pics.

I would like to build a dump trailer as well someday and really appreciate these threads (yours, Nat's, etc), although I must admit that seeing the shops and tools that some of you fellas have makes me a might jealous! :D

Great job on the trailer.

Thanks Cjcocn, having a shop is really cool and the tools to build what you want. It takes years to gather all the tools and I still need/want more:)

Here is an update on the Mini-dump trailer this week.

Nice job, no make that a really nice job! I do have a question about the tailgate.
Is it possible since the right side, and bottom are pinned, for you to hit a bump that causes the tailgate to bounce upward, about 3 or 4 inches, and then the tailgate fall off as the weight pulls the left side out of the pinhole? I realize tight fitting on the bottom pin should stop that, but it appears it could still happen. Is there something you have done to stop that, or do you need a retaining pin in the left side?

Great job. One questions on your tailgate latch (sliding bolt). When you get the trailer full of dirt or gravel, it will be pushing against the tailgate. Will you be able to slide the bolt up to unlatch?
Will enjoy seeing pixs after paint

My 8X16 dump trailer has barn door style tail gates that just slides down on the hinges and gravity is all that holds them in place, I figure if those have never popped off going down the hwy @65 then I should be good with this hinge method going 4mph behing that tractor...atleast I hope so:)

Thanks DRL,
Yes, that latch is also simular to what my 8X16 dump has and I have not had a problem releasing it when there is dirt/gravel against the tail gate.

I just want y'all to know I hate painting, so my paint job will look like poo so I will be taking pictures of it a at distance.

Looks great wushaw, you should be proud. I had the same thought as sandman about the gate bouncing up and out. Can't wait to see it painted. Well done and great photo documentation. Thanks!
