Building Lake Corona

Yep. I'm getting the vision. Will be an excellent Corona Lake!!!!

Will add, any tree that's not based a couple feet above the water level or ten feet or so horizontally away will probably die. These are timber trees. They don't like their roots flooded. I killed two nice walnut trees when I raised one of my ponds. One is only about 10 inches above water level and 3ft from shoreline. The other is 18 inches above and 6ft horizontally from shoreline.

Looks to be enough trees around that you can afford those in or close to the shore can go sooner than later. Boy, you still have a bunch of dirt to much to reach that waterline though!

It's gonna be a very nice addition to your property and knowing the job you did on your wedding venue, I am looking forward to seeing this one finished and grown in.

Yep. It's time to get some trees out of the way. They are starting to interfere with what needs done. I should probably make a follow up post on our venue remodel. A lot of upgrades since we left off.

Seeing how much water you get, and how quickly it gets there, you're overflow plan is going to have to be significant. A pipe will never work for you. I'm thinking you need a concrete spillway, and a lot of it!!!

A 10-12" overflow pipe and a wide flat earthen spillway at a minimum.

To get the full benefit from the overflow pipe the dam needs to have considerable freeboard.

If the dam freeboard isn't doable then Eddie's concrete spillway is next best.

I'm debating changing my plan of attack due to the amount of dirt that needs moved. I didn't want to disturb this hillside but it would make things much easier. Right now it sits about 15 feet higher than the target waterline at the top and then drops back down the other side into another ravine. Moving dirt from here would allow me to push downhill directly to the dam.

Sounds like a good plan.

Maybe save some of the topsoil to cover the dam with?

Can you bring it down enough for an overflow into the other ravine, and not over your dam?

Yes that would be the plan if I go this route. Would give me plenty of extra dirt as well for any needed repairs on the overflow and doesn't damage the dam.
