Building Lake Corona

Looks like my guess of 3 to 4 feet may be pretty close. I think this has been filled and drained 6 or 7 times since my last muck out. This much drainage on loose soil made for a lot of silt in.

Is all of this dirt coming from the loose soil from digging out the trees? This seems excessive and pretty much a deal breaker on having a pond if it keeps happening.

Lots of loose and exposed soil just from clearing. Factor that with about 7 or 8 rains in between draining the pond completely and it's not unexpected. With the pond being drained each time between rains the entire pond pasin is subject to erosion with every rain. Will not be the case once it fills with water.

Yep. Any silt that goes into the pond after it's full will gather at the upper end.

In my opinion, this has turned into a good thing.

I thought maybe you got some rain yesterday or day before?

We are brutally dry up here.

I agree. The slower than planned process will help in the long run getting rid of a lot of silt now and with compaction. The rain missed us. Getting really dry here as well. Grass is turning brown.

Where are you putting the silt?

Hybrid Bermuda (if it will grow that far north) is excellent for erosion control around ponds/dams.

Taking it all to the backside of the dam. Will look into the bermuda. Heavy rains this morning. Was really hoping to be working on the pond right now but we really needed the rain.

We received about this much. I need to get a new rain gauge. My last one sprung a leak.
