Right on. Plus they will probably accumulate the basic pond-scum eventually anyway. I've got a spot on my property that I reeeeeally want to put in a 1/2 acre pond myself, but I fear that I dont have any clay under my sandy top soil, and will have to haul in clay or use a liner (ugh).

Yes. Probably 120 lbs in each including top one..
Top is also tied to the bottom drums. Drums are upright with no lids and holes in them as well so there is no buoyancy.

Lol. I did dig a 4-foot deep trench with my front loader, it was all sand and never held even a tiny puddle, over about a year, even though the area is in a low spot / shallow valley. I dont have an excavator or I would have gone deeper.

Just try to put a septic in there, they will tell you it’s clay and it won’t perc.

I would paint the top of the structure perhaps even mottle it a bit; but leave the light colored bottom alone. Kind of like the way a fish is colored...
