David; I like that. How 'bout a few more photos when you get time? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rather than spacing joists 16 on center try to get a support beam (or row of blocks or deadman or something) down the center of the joists. That has the effect of having 8' joists instead of 16', and makes them stronger than all get-out. Definitely use 3/4" ply and construction adhesive on the joists and screws or threaded nails. Of course the concrete floor fixes ALL that problem, but it may be hard for you to get that in where you're building. The main thing is with joists, that the strength dies off with the square of the length. In other words, a 16' long joist is 4 times as bendy as an 8', not twice.
It still won't fall down, but it might sag.
Good luck, Jim

2x6's 24"oc over a 16 foot span, for tractor storage? Thats crazy. The only reason I can think of to do that is if you like a bouncy floor. Myself, I want a rock-solid deck. It, more than anyting, makes a structure feel well-build and sound. If I where going to build this for any pourpose I would NOT put 2x6's 24oc, I'd think it would deflect about like walking on a trampoline. I'd go with 12" on-center AND have a center support beam to cut the span in half. I could go with treated southern yellow pine 2x8's 16"oc with center support beam and 1 1/4" T&G decking. It'd be like walking on concrete, very little deflection. I'd really reconsider your plan, I don't think you'll get the results your looking for.

Woodlot,
I would do it your way as well. I am really one for over doing everything I do because too many times I have had to tear out my projects and do it better and stronger. The impression that I have of what is going to be in the little shed is that the items will be lighter things like a lawn tractor and a few other smaller things.

While waiting for building permit to build my house, I built a 12' x 16' shed. for floor joists I used PT 4x4s, 24" oc, leveled on blocks.
Used 3/4" TG flooring, and framed the rest conventionally. I've park my massey ferguson tractor in it for 8 yrs now, plus riding mower, tiller, etc.. . No problem with the floor, no give.
Some day I want to replace it with a nice 3 bay pole garage, but that will have to wait....
