Building Permit...911 Registration

Geeez Soundguy.....I was "so" into your posts.....and now I just don't know what to think. :confused:

Don't you understand?? For about $300...they will give me a permit with a 911 addy....and for about an extra $399 a year in new real estate taxes (annually) they will "allow" me to store my tractor under a "proper" 911 address. Now then.....with about ten more "good ole boys" like me, paying the same taxes...they will hire another gal....and figure out another way to tax us all out of what ever we been working for!! Now, I'm having trouble with this....and......some day.....when you have seen enough....you will too!!:mad:

I'm not sure what problem you found with my post?

I just think where you live may be a bit of a drag.

here, it doesn't cost anything to get the address assigned. -Usually- getting an address assigned is aprt of the permit process.. IE.. pulling a permit for initial construction ( or electric, or a well ), triggers the 911 address application.. however.. you can freely do the address application without pulling a permit, and cost is -0- dollars to get the address.

IE.. to have a piece of undeveloped ag land in my county with an address and to stick an ag building on it with no power or water, means no permit and no fees.

It's a county thing.. some counties are harder than others... northwest of me, there is a county that you can actually build a 400sf or smaller cabin on your rural property.. with no permits.. and it can be fully functional... electric, water.. sewer.. etc.

just got to buy the pole.. pay the power people, and pay the septic man.... I've hear dof other counties in other states that are equally lax.. Guy I work with has a cabin a couple states north... when he started building it he tracked downt he local county office to get a building permit... cleark asked him.. "why'd you want to do that? "...

good luck where you live... and sorry my post somehow bothered you.. or made you feel bad enough to use the angry face and the flat lippd one... ??

My cell gives you the option of turning this off so those wearing tin foil hats can still hide from big brother.

You sure? Mine does not have that option, the 2 options are;

1) Location On: which is what you would choose for the chaperon service where you can track the phone from computer or other phone.
With this option selected E911 location is on.

The only other option is called;

2) E911 Only

So no option to turn off the 911 call locator, on all my phones anyway. thought that was some Gov mandate.

Our county used to assign addresses one way then they changed for 911 reasons. Addresses are based on distance from a major intersection. I'll be danged if I know what the measurement distance actually is but it is not in feet, yards, or meters. :) Best I can tell its a fathom. :eek::D

We had to get the address when we built our house and put up number signs at the gate that is a good distance from our house. Emergency services can find the gate. I can't remember if we had to pay to get the address. A lady from the county drove out and measured the distance to get our address. Since the address is based on distance emergency services will have it easier finding the address.

Seems like a good idea to me. We paid for the lady to come out and find our address either though a fee or a tax. This one I don't mind. Our county wastes far more money for far more useless things than getting a correct address. This one is useful compared to spending 360K for 18 months of van service for maybe 45 people a day on a very narrow route that only a few people can even hope to use. Or our Human Relations person. Don't even get me started on that one.

I apologize Soundguy.....my post was way out of line. I miss-read what you said, and then I tried to use a little tongue-in-cheek...and botched that up pretty badly. I'm just upset with the county and their fee's....not you.

Dan, I'm not sure whether that system of addresses being some distance from a particular point is nationwide or not, but I know it exists in many places. I know what the starting points are in Dallas, and in Navarro County, they didn't send a lady out to measure; instead she just measured on the map.:) Our address was 18870 and I think we were just about 19 miles from town.:D

In my case. I have two signs out by the entrance to my road so if they are watching closely they will see the signs. I'm above and beyond whats required.
But one time I called an ambulance, and about 10 minutes later i hear the police
and they screamed right by.911 operator said is that them I said no just eh police and they went by because they didn't see the sign and I don't live on the same road as my address.I said it must be the new recruit as the other know me.
Anyways the ambulance found the house OK so that was what matters.
But we have also need the common sense approach here. The road agent called in a crash into his tree in his yard and the 911 sent them to the opposite end of the road and refused to accept that they were wrong.So valuable time was lost.Moral? Don't give up on plain old down by johns pig and kangaroo farm.In addition to the 911.
911 is only a tool....not fool-proof.
At least in my neck of the woods

When I first moved to my rural address we had the Route and Box method. My county has since gone to E911.

I get all of my mail and most of our deliveries to this address.

For some unknown reason, Google does not recognize the street I live on. I once received a notice from UPS that my mail address is invalid. They sent it via USPS. When I called them the lady explained that my address was no good. I then told her that I got their notice in my mailbox so how could that be so. There was a moment of silence and then she said my package would be on the next run. I got a chuckle out of that.

BTW, if you Google my phone number it has my old route and box address.

I'm a bit hard to find if you use a computer.:D

I drove for UPS for awhile. If it was a street that I didn't recognize, I would use the Thomas Guide map. If it wasn't there, I'd look on a AAA map. If it wasn't on either of those, odds were good that it was mis-spelled and I sent it to the office for research. Most of the time, I never saw it again. A few times it came back as a good address with directions. It's funny how many mistakes are on the maps and how long they get ignored. I contacted Thomas Maps one time to see if they would pay for corrections to their maps. With all the drivers that UPS has, I figured it was a no brainer to offer a reward for corrections to their maps. I got a form letter thanking me for my time and to have a nice day. LOL

When I use Google Earth to look at the area I hunt, I see that they have labeled the State Forest dirt road [gated 'cept in deer season] as XXX Hill Road Extension instead of the name on the Topo Map and the State Forest map. XXX Hill Rd is the one named street that the private section of this old CCC road meets while the opposite end meets a county road, in a different township, that only accesses this road and a large private holding and is named XXX access after that holding.

I guess they sometimes make names up as they go?

Google.com and google's maps will not locate my old address in Navarro County, but neither UPS nor FedEX ever had a problem delivering to me, although I don't know what maps they used.
