Built me a log splitter.

They never go to a wood shed, they are put in half cord drying boxes and are moved with a tractor.

After the splits are dry, the tractor moves the box to the house...

"Sometimes" IF I have the help when splitting, they go off the end of the splitter right into the drying boxes. BUT, most times I'm so far enough ahead on firewood and making splits so fast, the splits are just piled until needed and boxes are available.

Rob, why do you let your splits fall to the ground and then have to pick them up and haul to the wood shed?
That's something I'm going to be looking to avoid this year ... I ain't getting any younger ... :D

Yep. My splits never hit the ground. Seems pointless.

In Rob's case, split when boxes and/or help is available.

I don't work in the woods, on the BSM, or do firewood because I "have" to... I do it because I enjoy it!

Both my wife and me enjoy going to the woods, and firewood gives us the kind of heat we MUCH prefer.

My wife has a stressful job and she says, she really enjoys and prefers filling firewood boxes! Why would I screw THAT up??

lol

Anyway, right now we are making quite a bit of slab wood,

so she will have plenty to do when ever she feels like doing it!

Sawyer Rob, which model Timber Wolf splitter do you have?

Nice splitter, Rob!

I used a friend's TW-2 and really liked it. I almost bought myself a TW-2HD, but bought a used American CLS model 25-HH High Boy instead. It came with the hydraulic log lift, pans with extended hitch, cradle, 4-way and 6-way wedges. (The 6-way wedge is generally a bit much for it, but it works if the logs are not too gnarly). I recently had the company make me a custom 4-way wedge, where the horizontal wedge is set a bit lower (I tend to like to split my logs a bit on the smaller side).

As far as power, the splitters seem similar, but I do like the design of the Timberwolf a bit better: mainly because I could use the splitter to push the splits all the way into my trailer, which doesn't seem to work well with the American splitter.

That looks like a pretty decent splitter too...

There are a number of pretty good splitters on the market now, and I think it's now all about the "details". Some times those smaller things turn into a big deal, once you start using the splitter so it's good to look over the smaller things too...

The 4-way on my TW, can be "flipped",

So you can easily change the size of the splits and as an option, TW offers a hydraulic cylinder that will put the 4-way where you want. I like mine where it is in the pict. so I just leave it there for everything I split.

TW also has a 6-way as an option, but I'm really happy with my 4-way and many guys that do buy the 6-way, don't use them and end up selling them.

Glad you liked the picts...

My 4 way is hydraulic. Spoils you quickly. :)

Gotta be high enough so there is no bending over to operate controls. I built mine back in 1990 and did not have a welder. It looks pretty good for a homemade one and has never let me down in 27 yrs so far. I have been looking at splitters now for a few years and will be building a nice one since I like to build stuff and I know I can build one cheaper than a production made one. Log lift, lockable auto cycle for when others use it, adjustable 4 or 6 way wedge,30" cylinder etc,etc ......I am dreaming of the day it is started.
