Thought I might share a bumper I am building for my 1 ton.
I am headed for Alaska for the summer season and the fellows told me to take extra headlights and expect to replace the windshield, and don't forget stopleak for the radiator. I guess rocks are a problem when the big rigs go by.
The front is 8 in channel, the uprights are 2X2X3/16 tube that fit into sockets so the front screen can be taken off easily. The two front holes are made with easy lift receivers so I can put anything from balls, hooks or a tow bar if need be as I will be operating a road grader.
As you can see I have the screen to install and will update, hopefully this evening.

I can't help but wonder where in Alaska you'll be going, and as for the fellows who told you about it, how long ago was it when they made the trip? My parents lived in Anchorage from '65 to '71, and still returned for the summer for several years after that. My two brothers lived there for 20 and 25 years, and I drove up in '72 in a 3/4 ton pickup pulling a 24' conventional travel trailer, then in '90 and again in '91 in a one ton pickup pulling a 32' fifth wheel travel trailer. In '72 it was a real adventure and a tough one, but as one old timer I met in '91 who had also made the trip on previous occasions told me, "It's no longer a real adventure; just hard, dirty work." /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The one thing I think I can safely tell you is that what you've been told is not all going to be correct if the information is more than a month old. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif They do their road construction and repairs in the summer and they work fast (not like down here), so if you stay a month or more, it'll be a completely different trip coming back than it was going up.

That's what everyone told me, too. I never had a problem with the big rigs, but a VW bug going the opposite direction and a Plymouth sedan that passed me busted my windshield bad in '72. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Hope you have fun; it's a great trip and beautiful scenery.

Too many interuptions, should hav had this thing painted by now. Have the other side to screen, but thought I'd share how far I have gotten. Thought about putting some of those high intensity lights in there, but will wait to see how it is with just truck lights, after all, it will be daytime 24hrs when I get up there.

Finally got it finished. Won't make the beauty page, but will keep rocks out of the grill and headlights.
Had a small sidetrack. Nephew and I made this little compressor out of some parts lying around. Doesn't put out a lot of air, but will be handy if I need it up north. It wil punp 125lbs, but takes a while.

Randy, does this preclude using the lights at night ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
