Buried a dear friend today

Sorry for your loss, I have been in your shoes many times and it isn't easy, they are a very special creature..

My condolences. Several years ago I had to put down the most fantastic Golden Retriever. She had cancer. I sat up one night sitting on the floor with her because she was moaning and couldn't sleep. (Wasn't a stomach virus as first diagnosed) The next morning I asked my wife to take her to the vet because I felt it was no virus. Unfortunately I was right. I buried her on a piece of mountain ground that I own.

I remember sitting on the floor with her that night, silly I guess but glad I did it. She brought us comfort and love but was gone too soon...….. I will never forget that wonder time we had with her....

My last Lab was 14 when I had to let her go. It was February, we had about 2 feet of snow by then but I wouldn't dig her grave while she was there to watch me.
So when we got home that last time I shoveled off the spot and started digging... I had a BH but refused to use it. I swear as I was digging that I could hear her barking off in the distance... until then I was Ok but that made me lose it.
It wasn't until a couple of years later that I realized I had buried her on the exact spot where a woodcock had nested the previous summer. It's a quite fitting resting spot for a dog who loved to bird hunt.

Yes, my condolences as well. Loosing my 'best friend' was heartbreaking and I will never forget her. I know you won't forget a great companion either. I'm sure Buddy is feeling the same as you.

That's a really hard thing to go through. Your dogs bring so much joy but their time is always too short.

I cherish our two beagle mixes... because I know our time will be short. Every night I get on the floor and play with them, and they get to lay down with me in the big bed for at least a half hour before they go in their kennels. It's "our time". My heart goes out to the OP, it's a terrible pain to endure. God bless our pets.

I'm truely sorry for your loss. I still miss my previous friends / companions, our 2 current pals are getting up there (almost 12 now) and I am already dreading the day..... Remember all the good times and the funny times....it will help. Again, sorry for your loss.
