When we lost Vinnie and Reno our little Pug felt the loss. We were concerned about getting another little dog but felt for him. We got a Chinese Crested Powder Puff and they quickly became good mates. If we had to go to town they had each others company while we were away.
Then we took a rescue Chinese Crested Hairy Hairless. What a character he is. It is all so worthwhile. But you never forget your lost ones.
In time we hope to get a French Bulldog. I consider us a loving family. We give love and we get every bit of it back from our dogs. Life can be tough but it can also be beautiful.
Don't hesitate to get another dog. They will love you for it.

Sorry about your loss. There is an option albeit a very "dangerours" one to getting another dog. That is to do foster care. Many if not most dogs needing foster care simply need a lot of love and a little bit of training. You keep them until the rescue has found a decent home for them. Then it is quiet around the house until the next one comes.

I say "dangerous" because sometimes these rescues seem to know when they have a "ringer". IE; a family with a soft touch and a big heart. That is how we came to adopt our female boxer whom we lost this year to cancer. I don't recall but I think we likely made the decision to keep her before the first 24 hours had passed. We have fostered more since her and have not kept any. It's fun, challenging and rewarding.
