Rotary Cutter bush hog not cutting

If blades are locked togeather do not use your hands to unlock them. There can be a sudden release of energy when they unlock that can be injurious. Use a long bar, 2x4, etc. Miked74T

On here pictures are save 1000 questions and we can answer your Questions even mark up picture for you to refer to.

Take a picture of the gear box and pto shaft from a couple of angles and post them.

The shear pin is usually back at the gear box some thig like 2 6" disks with a hole in it for pin
the pin might be a grade 2 bolt one with no markings on the head and nut

That is nice to know cause I am lost.... I have a 8n Ford ...red and grey...if that means anything. haha...it has bush hog on the back.....it is just to weird if the blades move but not cutting...is that the norm...?

I drive down 168 everyday from Porstmouth to Moyock. I'm hardly an expert but I could take a look if you are not to far out of the way. Some times it just takes a fresh set of eyes to find the problem.

I think I know the area your are in.... its southern cheasapeake not far from the high school (the name of which escapes me) on battlefield. I'd have to get off at Hillcrest and come down battlefield. Send me an email or PM and I will see if I cannot make it today. Well, I want to thank everyone for their advise....Seems everyone was right....blades where stuck....missing some kind of bolt to raise the rear of the bush hog up. Seems I need a new transmission......SunnyJim came by and gave me lessons...Now I don't fell so stupid....I also need a new water lid. Seems he found out all kinds of things wrong with my baby. But now I can start to fix it one piece at a time... haha.... Thanks again

I'll try and add some details if I can, it is a 5ft Howse bush hog. I found the transmission was loose on the deck, the upper link was not connected to the bush hog so it would not raise correctly. One of the blades was stuck 180 degrees from its correct position. I had to use a piece of wood to knock it loose since it was not swinging very well. Once moved to the correct position I noted a large chip in the blade. After a few questions it turns out that the cutter had struck something in the field when all this happened so I checked the shear bolt which I had expected to be shear but it was intacted. I also noted grease around the transmission, once the top of the cutter was cleared of grass I could clearly smell gear oil. Turning the PTO shaft by hand I found what appears to be some missing teeth in the transmission on the bush hog.

I recommended stopping by Bage Industries which is right down the road in chesapeake close to the NC border. Bage Industries I know sells Howse implements and has allot of items a compact tractor owner would need including replacement howse transmissions. I've been eyeing a Texas Bragg equipment trailer they have myself.
