I have noticed several comments on the Bush Hog tires. I had the front tires go flat many times when side force was put on them. I went to a tire place and they suggested inner tubes. I did this and it has been two years and no flat tires since.
On the rear tires I noticed that the axles were getting hot. I tried some silicon lube and that worked for a short time. Then I removed the bolt and greased it. This works fine, but I am too lazy to do this often. I then notice a flat spot on the side on the platic part of the wheel. This looked like a good spot for a grease fitting. I drilled a hole into this to the center of the wheel. I then screwed a grease fitting in. I did not tap the hole first. But I had selected a drill bit that was a little smaller than the grease fitting. Now I can grease it very easily. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tubes sounds like a good solution. Having just this week received my unit, the brush hog came with one tire deflated and loose on the rim. I have some "bulletproof" tire sealer coming from Gemplers for the PT tires and I was planning on putting some into the front hog tires too, and kicking up the pressure to help hold them on. At least they are small to clean out if that doesn't work and I need to install tubes.

I was talking with a friend yesterday that [at his work] has a mower with the same tires as the brush hog, and the same complaints. They tried having them foam-filled at a tire shop but later chose to have that foam removed as it made the tires 'chatter' like a bad shopping cart wheel.

In my experience the tire slim has worked very well. I have had more trouble with the back plastic wheels breaking into. I suggest you have a spare ready in the case one shatters into. One of the wheels broke into and I was able to wrap nylon reinforced tape around the diameter and keep mowing till I found another wheel.

I think that's a good practice. That's what I used to do on implements and tractors until the season I had 13 flats and 3 new tubes on the tractors in the space of 6 weeks or so. Now when I get a flat in a new tire, I have the tube installed and Slime it. Sometimes I'm not too quick but I get there in the end. So far that's worked pretty well.

What type of Bush Hog implement has plastic wheels????

Here's what happens to the rear plastic wheels when you run over things that you didn't know were there. Pieces went flying all over the place and one went across the highway. Lucky no cars were around... could have caused a fatality. I now only mow near the highway when I can see no cars in either direction.

Since that happened I have put many more hours on the brush hog and have not had another rear wheel break.

I got tired of the front tires popping after several times. PTRich gave me some excellent advice for re-seating the tires... use a ratcheting tie down strap Wrap it around the outside diameter of the tread and then tighten it down. This will cause it to bulge against the rim. Then inflate it. It works great. However, the tires kept popping their seals and going instantly flat. I opted to exchange them for hard tires that are meant for hand carts. Those have not let me down. For that matter, I just pull the pins and swap them between the brush hog and finish mower and snowplow as needed.

I don't have a brush hog but have a finnish mower That I have had a number of flats on.

After a while I started taking them down to the tire store and they would install tubes in them.

I haven't had any flats since.
