OK, I don't think we wanna spend 2 grand on this ine... Now if I get one for $500....

Sickle mower? I dunno... We have some rocks (soft sandstone) and light brush. Are they up to that? Do they require much maintainance? I know nothing about sickle mowers...

Well, I am going to try and decide between the Deere LX6 and MX5. For Now... (No promises, I couls end back looking at others....)

Since that is all Green, and I want some input from owners of mid chassis Deere's, I'll start a thead in JD O/O

I've seen some bent up to but I also know how it happened and who was driving and that told the story. The size of the tractor on the front of it does make a difference also. You don't feel to much with a 80 horsepower tractor on them either.

A 4310 E-Hydro will not handle a 80 inch machine...72 is max for light to medium conditions.

Well, I decided against the Woods (No Way It'd work)

I am almost certainly not going with the Bus Hog. Even though it is 720lbs and rated for 25 Hp, I am not convinced that I wouldn't have trouble with it due to the frame on an offset model. I am really not ready to gamble $2000 that way. I can't seem to find any, and would have to special order it.

Hey edv, can you answer this:

The description I have read for the MX5 suggest that it cuts faster due to its design. Will I cut faster with the MX5 or the LX6? They are roughly the same price, locally.

Just to add some fuel to the fire...

I have very good success running a Woods RM600 (72 inch, 3 spindle) mower behind a Kubota B2400 (18 hp at the PTO). This arrangement will perform well when cutting 12 inches of VERY thick pasture grass (in one pass). It also does real well in 4 feet of thistles, bachelor's buttons and other tall weeds.

The blades are kept at factory specifications (razor sharp). I set the engine to PTO speed, place the transmission in low range, and hold the hydro-pedal at full speed. The front loader is not needed for weight on the front either.
